Am I correct in how I have interpreted this statement? Nothing is available prior to serial number 6000 in the 1962 model year?
How disappointing. I was looking forward to finding another piece of the history of this car.
    David,

The answer to the question of if you send in money and we do not have any information will you receive a refund is yes , it is my understanding if we are unable to provide shipping data information for a specific VIN there will be a refund issued. We unfortunately do not have anything on your vehicle at this time, save your $40.00.

The absolute earliest 62 VIN we can assist anyone with is 4932 the records are then spotty to the 6000 range.

If in the future we are able to recover additional earlier information an announcement will be made concerning that recovery. These records were all converted from Microfiche and as a result some could not be recovered.

      Mike,

I purchased my 1962 Vette in October, 1961 from Selman Chevrolet in Orange, California then located at 402 W. Chapman. Today they are located at the other end of Chapman and have become one of the largest Corvette dealerships in So. California. A very nice receptionist who took a personal interest put me in touch with someone in their accounting department who had been with the dealer forever. The paper records from the '50s and '60s had long ago been destroyed basically under a record retention program that pertained only to federal/state filing/tax issues and the statute of limitations.

I would dare say they are not alone.

As an aside, the third generation owner took no interest whatsoever in the fact that this car came from them even when sent pictures and documentation. From their perspective I suppose, they're in the business of selling new cars not paying tribute to what is past.

      Bill

Most got caught up with record retention, but not all treat these type of requests as irrelevant. The reality is most of thse requests deal with 40 - 50 year old information and the time clock is ticking fast as there aren't many sales guys working that were selling cars at a dealership in 1962, or 66 for that matter.
