    Malcolm Konner Chev Paramus NJ

Got my report today. This is where my 66 came from. They were a very large Corvette dealer and shortly after Malcolm Konner died, GM made a Commorative 86 run of 50 cars badged as "Malcolm Konner Commorative" cars. The dealership was sold in 1991 and is now "Paramus Chevrolet".

The information I found on the internet said Zora and Malcolm were good friends and Zora visited the dealership several times.

There must be others from this dealership out there. The PO of my car was in NJ, but he did not offer any history of the car and at the time, I didn't care.

Yep ! Konner was big. Zora visited there, as you said. You should find others who's car was shipped there. Bet that was a cool place back in the day !

Here's some old info I plucked off of the Supercar site. A neat old ad and a dealer sticker !! Notice the salesman's names in the old ad !! That's how you find info on your cars !!

        Rich,

Contact Bill Hermanek, chairman of the LI Metro club. I think he recently purchased one of the 50.

Thanks. I know who Bill is. I was a member of the chapter but I never really got active. I did attend a few events, but then I let my membership lapse. I should probably re-join.

Hi Rich, my 64 Coupe also came from Malcolm Konner Chevrolet in Paramus. Some good people back there also checked the Konner dealership in West Caldwell to see if they still had records from Malcolms days, but nothing could be found. Good hunting!

I received my dealer delivery info about a week ago, and was really surprised to learn that my 1966 convertible also came from Malcolm Konner. I just wish there was some way to figure out how my car ended up in the Midwest. That decade between 1966 and 1975 is still a mystery. Somehow, my car ended up in Appleton, Wisconsin by 1976. Anyone know if Malcolm Konner salesmen, Bob Wasserman and/or Pete Zichello are still around??

                Dan

I would be surprised if any dealer has any info from that far back unless they were a small outfit where a Corvette sale was a big deal.

My 68 Coupe came from a Chevy dealer here on LI that still exists, but when I went there a few years ago, they had nothing.

                Jim,

Since Konner was a real big dealer (the biggest?) and they were in NJ and so was Ft. Dix and it was 1966, there could have been a military connection. Or even a college thing. When one of my frat brothers graduated in 1967 in Boston he got a new 67 BB from a dealer in Boston then took it home to western NY.

I haven't seen Pete or Bob in over 20 years. They were probably gone well before that. I met them when I was about 15 and they looked old to me then, they were probably about 30. Everybody looks old when your 15.

As I recall they were racing Corvettes as a hobby but I don't remember where.

                    Rich,

For no other reason than it's a Corvette and it was the mid 1960s, I've always wondered if my car belonged to a guy in the armed forces. But like you said, it could have been purchased by a college student. There's just no way to know without some small clue. The trail going backwards on my Corvette goes cold at about 1976 when the car was in Appleton, Wisconsin. How it got there from New Jersey, when it got there, the route it took, etc., etc., are complete mysteries to me. Too bad these cars can't talk.

                      Harry,

Where did you know Pete and Bob from?? Were they still in New Jersey when you knew them? Any biographical information you might remember about either of them might help me find them if they're still around. Being a large dealership like Malcolm Konner was at the time, neither one would probably remember individual Corvettes that they sold over the years, but you never know. I still think it would be interesting to hear their stories about the dealership in general and the Corvettes they might remember.

I knew them from the dealership. Malcolm was a family friend, so my dad bought all his cars there. I would hang out at the dealership, the upper floor where the Corvette's were and chat with them.

Google them, I did and found limited information.

I purchased my first new car from that dealership...a 1968 Camaro. I wanted a corvette but that was the best I could do at the time.

The dealership is now called Paramus Auto Mall and is owned by the Meyers family. The owner Gene Meyer passed away in July of this year. He was great guy...sponsered a corvette show at the dealership every year. They still have a corvette only showroom on the second floor. I would try contacting Gene's son Stephen (owner of Hawthorne Chevrolet) who might be able to put you in touch with the Konner family who I believe still have a collection of corvettes.

I bought my '64 from them in 1970and I paid $2,200 for it. It's a FI coupe. Regrettably, I had to remove the FI unit because it ran terribly and was subsequently stolen from my storage unit. However, I think the $2,200 I paid for it was a wise investment decision. Better than some of the real estate ones I made five years ago.
