Re: Malcolm Konner Chev Paramus NJ

I purchased a 1970 LT-1 from Malcolm, two weeks later got a call from my salesman telling me that Chevy was no longer making 70's, but they would call me when the 71's were ready to be ordered. They called and I went up to see them - when I saw how much they had raised the price, cut the horsepower and my insurance company let me know the cost to insure a new vette in N.J. I got out of the whole deal. Did not get my first vette until 1983. I do remember that when I went to buy the 1970 all Konners salesmen wore Gold Rolex watches, salesman told me they had won a sales contest, great prize back then. After I bought my first vette, I went back to Konners every year for a car show they held for years. Zora was there every year, some years he would bring Effie or Jim Shinoda with him. He would sit for hours signing anything you had brought, I still have some awards I won at their shows plus some items that Zora signed. To this day I am surprised at the age that Zora and Effie lived too - as they were the biggest chain smokers I ever saw. As they say Zora would light a new one with the one he had just finished - he always had time to talk to you. Those were great days and I miss them very much.

Re: Malcolm Konner Chev Paramus NJ

I got my shipping report today, 1965 Yellow 365 HP # 16903. This car may have been in central New Jersey all its life.
The original selling dealership was Malcolm Konner, in Paramus and I bought it in 2001 from Billy Bob's in Lakewood New Jersey,
From this thread it doesn't appear there is any information available from the dealership, which is now Paramus Automall, however Tom Hendricks and others have provided us some history on the dealership. Has anyone been successful in finding information about their cars that originated from Malcolm Konner?
        Thank you
        George

          George,

I didn't get too far with the dealership information. I spoke to a relative of the dealership's former owner, and was informed that all sales records were destroyed after the dealership closed. I also tracked down two salesmen who worked at the dealership during the 1960s and 1970s. Unfortunately, neither one kept any sales records, notes, etc. After speaking to them, I learned that Malcolm Konner sold more Corvettes during the 60s and 70s, than just about any other dealership in the country. These two guys were selling between 50 and 60 Corvettes per month!!! Odds are, one of those two guys sold your car and/or my 1966. Good luck with your search.

          Jim C.

            Jim,
Hi, and thank you for your reply. Sorry you weren't able to get any information on your car, but you have sure done a great job of finding people. Can you provide contact information for the two salesman? Maybe because my car was yellow, a fairly rare color in 1965, they may remember something about it.
            Thank you again,
            George

              George,

I'll have to see if I can dig it up. The funny thing is that you mentioned your car's rare color. My car is Luguna Blue with a dark blue interior. When I spoke to one of the salesmen, he actually mentioned that it was not the most popular color, particularly with a dark blue interior. That being said, he remembered selling Luguna Blue cars, but no one specific car came to mind. Like I said earlier, these two guys sold A LOT of Corvettes over the years. I'm not so sure either one of these guys will remember your car.

              Jim C.

I have a 1965 Fuelie Roadster from Malcolm Konner Chev. also and got nowhere finding any records or people from them. I would also appreciate the names of the salesmen. Maybe they would remember my car.
                Thanks

                  Jamie,

Like I said to George...... I think it's pretty unlikely they'll remember your car from 46 years ago. If you're interested in contacting the salesmen, you can find their names above in an earlier post within this thread. Their names are listed right there in black and white in the old ad.

                    Jim,
Hi, thank you for the follow up. I did see the salesmans names in the advertisement that was posted by Tom Hendricks. I thought maybe you had tracked down email and or phone contact information. Sorry.

George, if you want to talk to Pete Zichello one of the salesman back in the good old days he is still selling cars. Pete works at Ray Catina Mercedes in I think Edison,N.J. Like previous posts state Pete does not remember much from the 1960's-70's. I have a lead on locating Malcolm's records from the era. No luck so far.

I was hoping maybe one of you graphic design guys could 'replicate' the Malcolm Konner color sticker that is shown earlier here. Would be super to have that back on my MK 64 Coupe! I've searched Ebay but no old MK stickers. About the olny thing not for sale on there! Thanks,

                          Michael,
Hi it's been about four months since this last post, have you had any success with your lead on recors from Malcolm Konner Chevrolet?

Anyone else with a car from this dealership had any luck gaining information on their car?
                          Thank you,
                          George

                            Hi George,

I have nothing new to report. Even though Malcolm Konner was one of the largest Corvette dealerships in the country at one time, it appears that none of the "stuff" we're all looking for exists any more. Those records would have been a gold mine!! When I was looking around for info, I eventually spoke to a Malcolm Konner relative, who told me all the old records were dumped after the dealership closed. I also hit dead ends with the New Jersey DMV.

Was flipping thru a June 1965 issue of Sports Car Graphic yesterday, came across this ad for Malcolm Konner. It was in the back pages, your average 2' x 2' ad, but still, the only other dealers I can recall advertising in national magazines were Nickey, Yenko, and Baldwin-Motion.
