C3 Smog pump

I an in the process of looking for a smog pump for my 70 LT-1. In checking around I have seen pumps that the sellers claim are 1968 or 1969 vintage by the date code on the body. These pumps had a relief valve in the body. When I find a pump with the correct date code could it have a relief valve?

I believe you'll find that indeed the 70 LT1 was equipped with 7801149 air pump, also used on 73-77 Corvettes (that required such). This is a different A.I.R. unit than than equipped on either 68 or 69. However, I understand, a few 72 models were equipped with 68 style pumps (relief valve). There have been a few threads in the in the past few years and you may want to search through the archives.

Try Joe Marquez in Nipomo CA. He had some tough to find '66 BB smog parts I was looking for. He goes to all the local CA swap meets scavenging for this kind of stuff. I second Dan's comments about Joe - thanks to Dan's post here a year or so ago, I was able to locate the correct bracket for my 67 L79 A.I.R pump. I had scrounged Bloomington and carlisle for 2 years to no avail. Dan - where did you finally get the correct smog bracket? As I recall, Joe didn't have the correct bracket for your L36....Craig

Craig- I found a guy who was selling odd-ball chevy parts and brackets on ebay. He didn't have the bracket listed, but I pinged him to see if by chance he had one. After sending $475 and another $15 for shipping, it was delivered to my door. That was the only correct 66/67 BB cast smog bracket I've seen or heard of for sale since.

Amazing how expensive this stuff can get isn't it? But, I know how you feel finding the right part, and the smog stuff is almost impossible for 66 and 67....Craig

Paul I have a pump with the numbers 7801149 stamped on the base of it. One of the responses says it's the one for your car. There are other numbers on it but I don't know them off the top of my head. I bought the pump with a bunch of other stuff to replace my missing smog system but it doesn't quite fit my 78 L-48. If you are interested in it let me know and we can work out a deal.
