    Rear Rotor Run Out

    Rear Rotors

There was an earlier posting on this subject, but I could not find it in the archives.

I have restored the rear wheel bearing assemblies, parking breaks and I am ready to complete the rear rotor instillation. “I goofed ” and had the rotors turned off the car. I now will need to shim the rotors using a dial indicator to allowable specifications for run out. Are there any suggestions of type and where I could secure a shim packs that could be used for this application?

    Thanks, Ray

    Great Day,
The restored base 250HP engine was started for the first time today with no problems!!

Put the rotors on and check the runout before you start shimming. If everything is clean, you probably won't have a problem. ')" would be nice, but I think .004-.005 will suffice. The only time I had a rotor actually give a problem the runnout exceeded .025. I had that one turned. The other was about .005 and I just left it alone. They've been doing fine for several years without any sign of air pumping.

You could send your rotors and spindles to Bair's and let them rivet the assembley and true as an assembly and for sure you would not have the pumping of caliper pistons and loss of brakes. Best dollars I ever spent after
a Chevrolet garage literally screwed up my 70 doing warranty work.
