    '62 (C1) 4 Speed Shifter

Can the shifter be replaced without dropping the transmission?

Years back I seem to recall having done a shifter wo removing the trans. It is a little tight but possible.

definitly possible to remove shifter without removing the tranny.Any time I have to pull a t-10 on a c-1, i always remove the shifter first.Snap-on makes a set of 1/4" drive swivel sockets that makes the job a lot easier.Suspect craftsman also has them, good luck, mike

Yo Chris - Just did what you describe a day or two ago. No problemo, but removing the driveshaft helps get to the rear shift linkage mounting bolt. Dennis

          Chris,

Over the winter I changed my Hurst T-10 look alike shifter in the 61 to the original shifter and linkage. It took about 2 hours and I didn't remove any other parts. You will need to remove the shifter plate and boot in the interior.

            Chris -

Just drop the trans crossmember to get it out of the way - you'll have much better access to the bolts. Support the trans with a jack or jackstand, and note any shims/washers that may be inbetween the top of the trans crossmember and the flange on the frame "X"-member.

              Chris-

I did this a couple months ago in my 62 and it was no sweat. A tight fit for sure and took some wiggling but it is all back together now.

              Todd.
