Can the shifter be replaced without dropping the transmission?

definitly possible to remove shifter without removing the tranny.Any time I have to pull a t-10 on a c-1, i always remove the shifter first.Snap-on makes a set of 1/4" drive swivel sockets that makes the job a lot easier.Suspect craftsman also has them,good luck, mike- Top

Over the winter I changed my Hurst T-10 look alike shifter in the 61 to the original shifter and linkage. It took about 2 hours and I didn't remove any other parts. You will need to remove the shifter plate and boot in the interior.- Top

Just drop the trans crossmember to get it out of the way - you'll have much better access to the bolts. Support the trans with a jack or jackstand, and note any shims/washers that may be inbetween the top of the trans crossmember and the flange on the frame "X"-member.- Top
