    Jack Suggestion

    Folks,

Just called the local Chebby dealer and found out you can still buy a jack for a 1963! Price is $178.00 plus taxes and of course they need to order one. Well, I personally don't want to spend that kind of money for a scissors jack to take with me on the drive to BG with the caravan. What kind of jack would this "august" group recommend? A scissors type from Manny, Moe and Joe or those other outfits? Carry a bottle jack and piece of wood? Open to any relaitvely inexpensive alternatives.

FYI - I have a "correct" jack for NCRS purposes but it is not meant for jacking!

    Re: Jack Suggestion

Some of the parts folks at various Chevy dealerships are 'hip' to licensed reproduction parts. It wouldn't be the first time a fella ordered something and got a repro....

On traveling, I carry a bottle jack in addition to my original and HAVE used the bottle jack once/twice. Depending on size/style you purchase, it will work without having to 'shim' and folded shop towel will safeguard against scrape marks to your frame!

Bottle jacks i've seen too tall to fit under C-2 frame with flat tire. the GM currently availabe probably not even close to original and way too expensive for your purposes. If manny etc can supply a scissor type for reasonable price , go that way. Junk yards good source. try old corvairs but you'll have to weld a 3 by 5" plate on a corvair type to accomidate the flat underside of C-1 frame. good luck, mike

I bought one of these for my C1. Made in the USA. Around $20. Fits in the spare tire well just like the original. Allows use of board hold down bolt, just like original. Made by NORCO who took over the manufacture of AUSCO's jacks. Hmmmm. AUSCO made the original.

went by the local AutoZone (think it was) and they had a 3300 scissor-style jack on sale for Father's Day at $17.99 plus tax - one of them now occupies a space in my 1963 Z06 compartment

I got the China version. I guess it depends on which one they pull off the shelf.
