    C1 Rough idle

Having just finished restoring my '62 C1 I connected the distributor vacuum advance to the hollow carb. stud{after setting the timing to 8 deg. BTDC, dwell to 30 deg.]-- all according to the book -- but the idle was very rough. I tried adjusting the mixture screws on the AFB carb without success. The only way I could improve this rough idle was to disconnect the vacuum advance and cap the hollow stud!!!Suggestions please. Thanks Alan Kingston

Thanks Wayne . I checked the vacuum advance diaphram with a vac pump - it is fine. Any other suggestions? Alan

Alan, Check for an air leak between the carb and the intake. I have often found that the gasket does not match the carb base. Not all wcfb gaskets will work on certain carb/ manifold combinations. Found this out on my dual carb set up on my 57. You can also spray a little gas around the base of the carb while it is running. If you get a change in idle at all you have a leak. Lots of luck.

For get the timing Deg. connect the vacuum advance then loosen the dist. hold down bolt then advance or retard the timing as the engine is idleing and if this corrects the idle and she runs good , your balancer has sliped.
