Thanks for the tip. I will checkout the local scrap yards for some of these gems in the rough.

Sounds like a deal to me!!! Unfortunately, I don't have the pump anymore. See you at Vintage Thunder in a few weeks. Chuck

            Re: WSW Pump Guts

I did a couple of things today regarding pump restoration:

First, I went to the scrap yard and got two spare piston/cylinder mechanisms from a 71 and another later GM car for $5. These were 3-port pumps that I could use in the event mine was not salvagable.

Second, I found that in addition to the broken cylinder wall, the solenoid which activates the plate to allow the piston to move and create the pumping action had slipped about 1/16", just enough to cause the mechanism to jam. I discovered this gap by comparing my original with the two that I brought home from the junk yard. This may have been the reason that the cylinder wall eventually failed.

Third, I moved the solenoid back into the proper position and used JB Weld to hold it in place forever. While I was at it, I decided to use JB Weld to fix the cylinder wall breakage. Tomorrow I will install the restored pump and let the Board know how everything turned out.

Just in case, does anyone have a junked 5-port WSW that they would like to part out a cyclinder case. I'm not yet out of the woods. Also, was this a Corvette only, one year wonder(ful part)? I wouldn't mind having a spare.

What other GM cars/trucks of the era featured a headlight washer system?
