    1975 CHEVY CORVETTE CONV

    DEAR SIRS:

I HAVE JUST RECENTLY BROUGHT A RED 1975 CORVETTE CONV. I HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

    1) LOOKING AT THE INDISDE OF THE DOOR, IN THE PAINTED AREAS, SHOULD THE UPPER CORNERS CLOSE TO THE FRONT OF INSIDE JAMB, BUT ON THE DOOR ITSELF, BE PAINTED FLAT BLACK??? OR SHOULD IT BE THE COLOR OF THE CAR, WHICH IN THIS CASE IS RED!

    2) WHERE DOES THE HARRISON AC STICKER GO IS ON THE CONDENSER OR FIREWALL.??

On the '75's that I've observed, the Harrison A/C sticker is on the A/C "box" that contains the evaporator. This box protrudes from the firewall on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

Do you know what type of paint use the factory in those semiflat black areas? What happend with the hinge opening? There is a seal around the opening cover. Should be painted black or was assembled after painting? Thanks you all Best from Argentina Roberto NCRS #30019 RMC

Re: 1975 CHEVY CORVETTE CONV DOOR

Roberto, any brand of semi-flat black paint will work. I think the sealant was on when the door was painted, but don't have a car here to look at right now. Can anyone else help here? The hinges and hinge area is body color, but not too finished; just enough paint to make it passable. Judges ususally deduct for too nicely painted/finished hinges and jambs.

Didn't let painter touch 'Lil Red (my '71) in a few places (backside of hood, door jambs, and under gas tank lid). The black out at the top of the door fronts is VERY rough. Some extends around door inner which says black out was shot (my car) with doors open.

There are several 'seals' (hinge access door, pwr window wiring, Etc.) and I can better answer Bob's post with a 'touch' more clarification. Hey, Roberto! Try the olde standby --- AIM, Section, Page, Item.... UJ will shake it here, boss, and give you a 'qty one' answer.

                        Early shark door, details...

To be more specific on the door fronts, there is a cover (70 AIM, UPC 1, Sheet K6, 3919667-8) in the hinge access opening with screws and a gasket visible in the borders when installed. When Stephen mentioned his 75 front door black out I tried to figure how was painted in the factory. Was cover installed when black out was done? In PW cars there is a wire seal between door and body. Mine is almost body color. I suspect is totally incorrect due to repainting. Is that correct? I think that JG mentions this... Thanks in advance Roberto NCRS #30019 RMC

Saludo, Roberto. You are correct in assuming that your car has been painted without removing the power window conduits. These, or the rubber plugs in the case of non-PW cars were installed after painting. The only visible paint would be overspray if the factory did touch-up in the door jamb. I have seen many re-painted cars with totally painted plugs or conduits.
