Hi George,
Its those Palmyra Motors cars you and Howie Weathers sold. If it came from another dealer I wouldn't be having this problem. Hope all is well.
Think about a vacuum leak. Usually the backfire at tailpipe is a sign of a "too lean" mixture, that is too much air and not enough fuel. Check for a cracked, chewed through or pulled off hose on any vacuum accessory. Starting cold closes the choke to effect an over rich mixture that may compensate for a vacuum leak. After warm up the choke stands full open and the leak causes a lean mixture and rough idle. Other places to look are worn throttle shafts, deteriorated gasket between carb and manifold and intake manifold leaks. (none of these are likely to manifest themselves during storage but still worth a check) Also check the operation of the PCV valve, could be gummed up. Good luck, TP
I just replaced one today, the correct part number on the blister pak is 125-65 for a 6.5 in hg opening signal. A tip to everyone.... get a power valve blank for about $5.00 at the same store for troubleshooting. It will help isolate carb problems and a cheap way to prevent blowing a valve when doing radical tuning. TP
Thanks for the tips. As I dug into things w/ the help of Clem and the others the problem became apparent. The primary float bowl was full of shellac and the car was starving for fuel. Thats what I get for not using the car. Installed a carb. kit and it seems perfect. Thanks to all for the help.
