    1968 Protecto Plate info...

In viewing other POPs, I see that '69 and up the interior & paint codes ARE NOT on them. I guess I thought this was standard as the two original '68 POPs that I have, have the interior & paint codes on them. Anyone else have an "original" 1968 POP and notice this???

    Paul,
Yes, as you have noticed, the PoP is another 1968 difference. If you have the 1968 Owner's Protection Plan booklet you will also notice some significant differences between the 1968 and later documents, not the least of which is that the 1968 version has tear-off maintenance pages with the VIN punched through the form. I wonder why that changed for later years?
BTW: This is not a Corvette only feature, I have seen it for other 1968 Chevrolet car lines.

      Paul-----

1968 was the last year that interior and paint codes were included on Protecto-Plates. 1969 through 1972 did not have the interior and paint codes. After 1972, the Protecto-Plates disappeared, entirely.

The 1968 Corvette and Chevelle Protection Plan booklets I have seen, which came originally in new cars have the vehicle VIN number punched right through the entire booklet, all pages at the far right hand edge - as you look at the closed booklet. It is hard to miss.

This book has no ID# except the pop itself.

This is Correct on my two '68 Books...

Vin is punched through every page except the POP page. First # of the VIN(a 1)is at the top then comes down along the right edge of the pages. Also a row of "larger" holes or "dots" about a 1/4" UNDERNEATH the VIN. 13 in all. One for each character/number in the VIN.

As the original owner of a 1968 Convertible, I have the original POP. It has the VIN number punched thru all pages and the trim and paint codes are on it. By the way, the original warrantee required that the car be checked at a dealer at 12 month intervals and a coupon removed from the booklet. The booklet says that it is applicable to chevelles, camaros, chevy II's Corvair's and corvettes.

My original owner 68 booklet is punched also. Hope this stuff brings a dollar or two when it is sold.
