CI HOOD RELEASE CABLE

My 1961 ( very early 10867S1004XX) hood release cable does not say "hood release" on it. The face is not flat. It is a bullet shape on each end. Is this correct? Thanks as always, Joe DeLuca #37862

I suspect it is a replacement. I have seen other cars equipped with similar cables.

Joe,
If the handle rotates then it is a repro. The originals had a D shaped shaft that will prevent it from rotating. If you are ever going to PV your car, this item will fail you. This is one of those little hidden items on a PV that is not in the Guide and you never know about until a PV judge tells you!

I don't know if the handle on mine is original, but it appears to be. It is square on the ends and reads "hood release".

Ed, That is exactly what I have. Is that a GM replacement part? I thought that the handle was suppose to have "hood release" on it. Thanks, Joe

Joe, obviously that's the GM replacement. The 61 I used to have had one just like it as well. I guess the piece on eBay should be termed NORS vs NOS. Corvette Central has a correct appearing repo in their catalog for $73.

The part you have has been sold for years by GM under the same part number as the original in th AIM--yet it has a different handle. Many sold--many wrong.
