    Occasionally Driven 67 Carburetor Problem

The problem is lack of driving time....

Gasolene tends to evaporate over time, when that happens, the carb gaskets tend to shrink, the power valve diaphram may crack. Car gaskets have to be wet, and when they shrink, they may block an air passage, thus causing your rich situation.

Re: The problem is lack of driving time....

Adding on to this post, Holley used composition paper gaskets between fuel bowl and venturi on some carbs from that era. Letting fuel evap through the vent stacks (run the car in the summer and stick it away for the winter) 'tickled' the problem. I'm sure if you had the carb overhauled by a good artisan recently, he used latest/greatest gasket technology which is much less prone to dry-up gasket fatigue and flake syndrome.

Still, there is a cheap simple alternative. That's to take a small plastic bottle with flip-up 'squirt' head (some shampoo items are packaged this way as well as GM lubricants) fill with gas, and squirt down the vent stack(s) of the carb to keep the fuel bowls full. Also, a real good suggestion for Spring start-up of your car to prevent excessive cranking while the fuel pump fills the bowls on initial start....

                        Jack,

Of course the other "cheap simple alternative" just involves putting left hand on steering wheel, right on shifter, left foot on clutch and right foot on gas, and then Driving the car so it all doesn't happen in the first place.

                        P.S. Driven the 65 lately?
