    '67 REBUILT DIFFERENTIAL FLUID LEVEL

I am filling a rebuilt differential on my '67. Relative to the filler plug, what is the proper level, and will it need to be topped off after the car is driven for the first time?

Rob, fill it til it "drools" out of the filler hole. You could check it after driving but if there are no leaks it should be fine.

The level should be where you can reach it with a slightly bent finger inserted into the fill hole.

When I worked at the Gulf station, the owner taught me to use an allen wrench, the short end, rotate in the hole, remove and look for fluid.

The actual spec should be in the owner's and shop manual, but I think it is between the bottom of the fill plug to 1/4" below. If you fill it to the bottom of the plug when cold, it will be a little higher and spill out when hot due to expansion with temp.

The specified capacity is 3.7 pints, so you could put this much in and if it's between the bottom of the plug to 1/4" low, it's okay.
