Finally I have a new set so braided spark plug wires for my 70 big block. I will be removing the new braids and installing them on my correctly dated wire set. Would someone with the correct configuration please measure the braid length for each wire and list for me so I can go out and do the transplant while minimizing my time in 100°F+ weather in DC this weekend? Thanks very much. I'll see all of you who attend Boston this coming weekend.
Tony, I would suggest that you remove the wires, match them up by length and then make the switch. Let me know how you make out on this. I have thought about it in the past, but the removal/installation of the boot at either end scared me. If you do it without removing either the sparkplug boot or the distributor nipple, I'd love to hear how.

You will find this almost impossible if you are using correct wires, there is a tape like ring around the wires thast serves to secure the braiding to the wire and keeps the braid from riding up on the wire, it is non-removable to the best of my knowledge as it will not restick. I have tried many times without luck, however if you manage it PLEASE let me know how you did it, I show a 69 and replace the wires at least twice a year as I have found no acceptable method to clean them. jerry

The spark plug wire boots come off pretty easily. I just pulled the boot slowly and steadily and it slides right off. The problem is removing the braided wires sheath over the spark plug terminal. This 135° angle appears to be easier than the 90° angle of the distributor terminal. I think I will be giving up on the braided swap and go with which ever setup gives me the least points deduction: Correct dated wires vs. correctly braided service replacement wires (with correctly dated distributor/coil wire). Anybody out there know which is likely to lose least number of points at the Boston Regional (where I suspect the judging will be thorough).

Tim,
I am driving my '70 from Springfield, VA (just outside of D.C.), but I will leave on Tuesday morning with a long pit stop in Lancaster, PA until Thursday. I will be continuing my trip on Thursday noonish from Lancaster, PA. Perhaps we can meet somewhere along the way. Maybe NJ would be a good place to hook up weather you are trailering or driving. Are you driving or trailering your Vette?

Tony:
I'll be trailering my '73, (for the first time) and leaving very early on Thursday morning. I used to live outside New York city, so I want to cross the G.W. bridge just after rush hour and then it's about a three hour drive to Boston. I'll be towing with my Astro AWD van with VA tags - 73 L-82. Keep an eye out. Tim

Tim,
I have some business to take care of on Thursday morning. As soon as that is completed I'm on my way. I will be driving my 1970 Laguna Gray LS-5 Coupe. Hope to see you on the way. Maybe we can meet at the judging presentatioin by John Woods at 7:30 at the hotel. I will be wearing blue jeans (now no body else better wear their blue jeans or you won't be able to find me!}.
