    Re: BC/CC Paint Judging

I personally shot lacquer on my 57 and my 62. Neither were judged. NCRS needs to move forward by changing the paint rules or let the members decide on a membership vote. Has this ever happened?? Lacquer is a poor paint. Also now illegal in many states. Does anyone know how to implement a motion on this overdue subject. Some of the same people who will scrap over the lacquer rule, probably think nothing of restamping blocks, perfect chrome and stainless, repo. interior, wire harness,Glass, tops, weatherstrip, etc.. Are we having fun or are some people upset because they used lacquer and now everybody must. Just my opinion. Thanks!

Dick - Not everybody, just the factory and that is how NCRS judges them and the way the rules are written. It is to be no better or worse than the factory but has to be the same paint as the factory. If you don't want to use lacquer you don't have to but don't bitch when you decide to have your car judged and it loses points for non original paint. The NCRS feels very strong about originality.

Dick: I have only been an NCRS member for a little over a year and have not had my vette judged or doubt that I will in the future, so I don't have any vested interest in the issue other than an interest in having the rules be realistic and practical. I agree with you that the NCRS should rethink their postion as it relates to lacquer paint being the only acceptable ( correct) paint finish for a restored vette. In my humble opinion the goal of restoring your car to ORIGINAL condition as it left the factory should contain the operative word APPEARING,and the goal state that the car should be restored to ORIGINAL FACTORY APPEARANCE. A car is only original once, that is when it is first built. Even if you were to have the "ORIGINAL" lacquer out of the same container that was used to paint your car at the factory, and you repainted your car, your car is no longer ORIGINAL, it would be RESTORED to original appearance. If You replace a part on your car with a PRODUCTION correct part from a donor car or buy it NOS, your car is no longer ORIGINAL, it is Original appearing. I will conclude by saying that I think the MAIN GOAL AND OBJECTIVE of most NCRS members is to RESTORE and PRESERVE the heritage of the Corvette. IMHO Len

          Len,
Your statement: ".....the goal state[s] that the car should be restored to original factory appearance." IS NCRS policy. You have learned well in your year in NCRS.
