    It would work like this.

The combination issue would be published at the same intervals that you now receive Drivelines. The quantity of member ads would not change - we would still have whatever number of ads are submitted between issues. No member ads would be repeated or held any longer than they are now. (In fact, another one of my suggestions is that we shorten the ad deadline-to-mailing interval to about two weeks.)

The 100 extra Restorer pages would be in the form of two additional Restorer "issues" that would be generated to match the current Driveline schedule. Yes, it will take more articles per year to create more pages per year. The Publications Committee says that they currently have a backlog of articles that haven't been printed. I would also expect that the new Restorer Editor could generate additional articles from the NCRS archives or by offering incentives to members who will write them.

Re: Two more Restorer issues per year?

I think some members are opposed simply because it breaks tradition. Also, I personally like to keep the Restorers as reference, but throw the drivelines away after a few months. Perhaps a good way to cut down on expense would be to mail them together, possibly making the Driveline a pull-out center section which could be separated from the Restorer, without "messing it up". I think that way we could "have our Top Flite car, and drive it too."

I would love to see more Restorer issues!

            You have a good point.

I'd like to receive a quality issue of the Restorer/Driveline each and every month.

I'd also like to see a Letters-to-the-Editor section, more member profiles and garage tours, a listing of new members (who want it), more how-I-did-it tech articles, more and larger photos of everything, a two page "gallery" section of vintage car photos (from member albums), more listings/photos of available GM parts with descriptions of service design changes, and more coverage of local NCRS events.

I wish I'd thought of that.

What a great idea. Sure, that could work.

I've always saved my Drivelines - even back when they were only colored sheets inserted into the Restorer issues. I guess I assumed that everyone saved them.

Re: Two more Restorer issues per year?

I'm with Bill on this one. I value my library of Restorers as a separate and complete unmarked reference. I retain Drivelines for 2-3 issues, and mark them up as the mood strikes. Also, storage spce for a collection of "combined" issues would be a problem for me. My preference is for separate entities. Dick Eaton, #1104.

No, YOU have a good point.

                        Jerry,

Now THERE is a good list of recommendations. I'll probably see it come to pass about the time retire (I'm 31 now...). I'd love to see this much info, get it monthly, and I'd even pay more dues for it.

Otherwise, I agree that I like them separate, as I keep each in different stacks in the bookcase here in my home office.

                            My vote/mailing costs

Having read the alternatives suggested below, my vote generally is for a joint mailing 6x per year with the publications kept separate so the Restorer can be saved and the Driveline tossed.

There were several thereads a while back about the delay in getting the Driveline, and numerous requests that it be sent first class mail to everyone or those who opt (pay) for it. Combining the mailings is only going to make that proposition more expensive. I think first class mailing of the Driveline is more important than combining the issues. So, if the "joint mailing" of two separate publications can't be mailed first class at reasonable cost, I'd vote for keeping them separate, publishing them both 6x per year, and mailing the Driveline first class and the Restorer bulk rate.

I'd like to see 2 more Restorer's per year and to be frank the Driveline has not proven to be a timely source of parts for me . I'm one of those folks who get it real late. Maybe it's time to consider using the Net for the Driveline ads. I know this won't seem fair to those who don't has access to a PC but the format is much more timely and the Restorer issue count could be increased without impacting the Driveline. If I just had to vote and not comment My vote would be to increase the Restorer issue count and combine the Driveline in the mailing as a seperate document. Rich #2276
