I have cast aluminum valve covers on it now. Acording to 1 book I hvae the bolts should have an M on them, they do not.But I couldn't find any thing telling me what valve covers it should have on it. Thanks in advance.
The 1969 L-46 used cast aluminum valve covers that were first used for 1969 Corvettes with L-46 and 1969 Camaro Z-28s. These were the aluminum covers with provisions for the PCV system. One side had an emblem with the crossed-flags logo and the other side cover had provisions for a twist-on oil filler cap. The 1969 valve covers also had NO drippers on the inside, upper surface as did 70+ valve covers of the same style. The 1969 covers were more-or-less an "as-cast" finish and were not polished.
Tom,
While most 1969 to 1972 Corvette SB with aluminum valve covers had fasteners with the M headmark, not all did. Unless your bolts are chrome plated, or otherwise have some indication that they have been replaced, don't worry about the headmark.
