    GM Rear-Axle Gear Lube PT#1052271

Some time ago I purchased GM Special Formula Multi-Purpose Rear-Axle Gear Lubricant part no. 1052271. This is no longer available and has been superceded by part number 89021671. Was there anything "Special" about the original lube or was it just marketing hype for standard 90W gear lube? The replacement lube says it is 80-90W gear lube nothing "Special". Can I use a good brand of gear lube without any problems? I know I have to put in the limited slip differential additive.

    Thanks

george: go with a brand name 90 wt gear oil and add the posi addative(i like kwell , a spermaceti(whale oil derivative) product, 4 oz. ) Most GM "SPECIAL" lubricant/fluids/antifreezes etc, are "hype" at best.mike
