Patrick: 66 KH K/O info: Addendum

    Patrick,

I had a problem with my original post to this, it was too long, was "rejected", and I ended up having to re-type it from my notes and memory. Also, I focused mainly on the markings, stampings, etc, and "by-passed" some of the more obvious characteristics like the brushed metal cone covers, etc.

What I wanted to add is that upon checking with the 1966 TM, it has a better way of describing the way the markings are laid on the back of the spinners, in a "clockwise" fashion. The "pie" starts on "1", the right / left designation is on "2", the 3rd "wing" is blank, and the measurement for the "pie" is closer to 3/8" in diameter, not the 5/8" that I mentioned.

Also, the adaptors and lug nuts (1 1/8" long) have the worn appearance of having been plated / coated with what I think was cadium (?). Just more information. Tom #24014

Re: Patrick: 66 KH K/O info

Tom --- I had to drop my '66 spare K.O. anyway, to check tire pressure prior to Sun Valley, and I concur that the K-H and D-49985 are there, as well as B 1 3 66 [B is either a production shift or a casting line]; the date is Jan 3rd '66. I believe my set was "donated" by VIN # 13162 (mid Feb production). I have no square stamp with enclosed letter (probably an inspection mark). As to the markings on the adaptors, I don't recall Left/Right side stampings on mine, but I'll check for the internal (cone) casting #'s next time I have one off --- I've had this set long before they started making repro's.

            Wayne,

I'm fairly sure that the D-49985 is the correct casted wheel number, but far be it from someone like me to pass the rule. I speculate that the book (or Nolan's notes) were "typo-ed". Also, unless they quit the LEFT / RIGHT SIDE stampings, I would bet yours are there too. Those are more "lightly" stamped, and would have been real easy to miss, especially if there is any rust / corrosion. I practically "stumbled" upon those markings. Tom #24014
