I just installed the original AM radio in my '63 and it picks up 2 stations in this medium sized city. While the radio was on, I grabbed the antenna to extend it and the radio volume tripled and there was dramatically improved reception. Back to a weak signal when I was not touching it. All of the antenna hardware is in place, such as the ground strap and the plane. I never did replace ground straps in the engine or exhaust. Will completing the ground circuit help? Thanks.

Re: Wonderbar Antenna
Hi Peter,
I would doubt this would make much of a difference for the level of reception. It would help a bit more for against the static though. Your engine is already attached to the frame via the mounting point at your gearbox so electrically there is already a connection made.
When you grab the antenna your body becomes a part of the antenna (you are conducting electricity pretty well). I believe I've read in previous postings that you can enhance the reception a slightly by tuning the radio/antenna combination with a insulated screwdriver (preferably completely of plastic) on the back of the radio. When you do this make sure your antenna is completely extended.
