Re: Crossing the Border for Windsor

Good Morning gentlemen. I contacted my insurance agent and was advised that all insurance policies issued in Canada and the United States have coverage in North America. This information was obtained over two years ago. I have never been asked about insurance issues at the border. The customs officals are concerned with the goods and persons that come into their country. Our convention is registered with the Canada Customs. In regards to 911, I have seen no significnat changes in their policies and proceedures. In 2004, we have driven to Florida, Charlotte, Wildwood and three times into Detroit and again no problems. I have been stopped in the United States since 911 and the Canadian Insurance card was accepted by the police.
If you follow the guidelines your trip should be trouble free.
If you have any other concerns like always give me a call. My home number is 905-857-1463.
    See you in Windsor.

          Brian,
I have a Hertz discount coupon. 25 bucks off a weekly. Oh wait! The only rent f_rds. No way. I'll walk first.

I was thinking we could rent a convertible, but being Canada and all, it will probably snow.

Oh, Mikey... See ya at the beer trailer. Hinckley says I have my own tap.

            Thanks for the clarification Scott.
But I think when travelling to Detroit, you should be more concerned with LIFE insurance.

Yeah, but I've no place to stash the pistols before I drive over to the Windsor side.

Made it through 4 years of med school in downtown Detroit, so I don't think I'll have a problem. Then again, wasn't driving a vintage Corvette through town back then either.

I'm glad that we won't be doing the back and forth with the New York "DRIVER" plate.

Re: If Canada Is Like Mexico...

Parts of Texas are more like Mexico than I like to admit...Unfortunately, I live in one of those areas.

If we could just figure out a way to drag Mexico into the twentieth (nineteenth?) century, we could solve this illegal border crossing problem. It's nothing our national budget for about three years couldn't cure, but then the corrupt politicians would steal about 90 percent of the dough before it could do any good. After that, we could spend some time trying to pull Canada out of their socialistic bog.

Hey, Mikey, do you Canajuns have indoor plumbing yet? Should these guys bring their own personal hygiene materials?

Check with your insurance co. The issue is.....

Some US car insurance companies do not automatically provide coverage while you are in Canada. They require a rider to cover you while you are there.

Just got my special card from State Farm agent here for trip into Canada. I will have to show it at the border crossing as I was told by agent. Regular insurance card issued for State of Texas won't do it.

Talked to my Detroit-area agent today, and he confirmed that my policies (regular for drivers, collector policy for my "toys") provide full coverage for anywhere in the U.S. and Canada; only Mexico requires a rider. I mentioned that my GM and Chrysler company cars (in my working days) had a separate Canadian Insurance Card included with the registrations for each Company-owned car, and he said they only issue those with commercial accounts, not individual accounts. He is not aware of any of his thousands of individual clients ever needing or requesting a "Canadian Insurance Card", and I have never been asked for one either in all the years I've been crossing the river. Check with your agent to confirm that your policy covers you in both the U.S. and Canada.
