Read Roy Sinor's article in the last issue of

the "Corvette Restorer". It's very good and goes into this topic in great detail. Of course, all judges are not created equal when it come to detecting repops.

Before a judge can rightfully deduct originallity points, they should be able to explain to the owner the specific aspect on the part in question and how it differs from the original.

Amen to Tracy's comment. There must be an identifiable difference to a repop before a judge deducts points for a repop and that difference should be noted on the judging sheet.

Read it a bunch of times. It covers the reproduction part issue but not the issue I raised with the water pump which has a date code that does not match the car.

                    Re:WP date code

Lee, Water pump date codes are rarely judged because of their hard to see location. If the date is easily seen, and it's wrong for your cars dates, there would be a 20% deduction from the originality side.

Lee, the date is 20% of the five axes of originality; if the other four axes are correct, you'd lose 20% of the allocated originality points, and be eligible for all the allocated condition points.

Joe, I think for the most part, that mentality has gone by the wayside. Sure you may still see this petty B.S. on the field a a few chapter events, but the quality of judges that are at Regionals and Nationals are above this. The extensive effort put forth by Roy Sinor, the late John Woods, Terry McManmon and many others has made the judging more consistent from event to event. A recent event was held and the car owner noted that even though the judges were not the same as the last ime he had his car judged, the items noted and the point deductions were almost identical. Less than 1/2 percent difference in deductions.

As the old saying goes, "We've come a long ways baby" An we are striving to become even better.
