    C6 sightings

I have seen several C6 Corvettes around the suburban Detroit area (a red one went past my house over the weekend and I stopped to look at a silver coupe #32 parked along Woodward today). They all had regular MI plates as opposed to manufacturer plates. The one parked alomg Woodward had a GM bar code decal on the windshield so I assume these cars must be executives cars since I was under the impression that they would not be available to the public until August or Sep. I was amazed to see how much smaller the C6 appeared than the C5's. I know it is indeed smaller but when seen on the road it looked MUCH smaller. Has any body else seen any on the road? What are your impressions?

        Jeff/Tom,
My former neighbor in Birmingham is an engineer for GM and has a silver coupe for 6 weeks and I met another engineer at 13/Woodward with a silver roadster and both were pre-production models used for evaluation by staff. I also have seen several others on the road. They are looking good!!!!
        Regards,
        Rick

Haven't seen one on the road the the OA length is 174.6", which is 0.5" SHORTER than a C2. It's 4" wider than a C2, but an inch narrower than C5. Likewise it is an inch taller than C5 and an inch shorter than C2.

Top speed in showroom stock trim is 300 KPH (186 MPH), and the EPA fuel mileage ratings are 19/28 with the manual transmission.

What's really amazing is that the curb weight of 3179 pounds is less than 100 pounds heavier than the '63 C2 and actually marginally lighter than later C2 base small block models.

When introduced as the model 901 in 1963 (later changed to 911 when Peugeot claimed trademark rights to three digit model names with a zero as the second number), Porsche's new model was about 2300 pounds. The current Corvette and 911 follow the same engine and chassis architecture of their forebears, but the base 911 is a thousand pounds heavier than it's 1963 ancestor and about 200 pounds heavier than a C6.

I think Zora and every Corvette enthusiast can be very proud of GM's effort with the new C6.

GM sent one to DEI for the corvette show i was at over the weekend but dale jr like it so much he drove it to daytona for the nascar race so a bunch of corvette owners like myself did not get to see it. i saw the one at detroit auto show in jan but you could not get close up. mine is to be built the first week in aug. and i hope to have it for corvette carlisle. duke you should try and make carlisle as a lot of the guys you know will be there and the vetteheads put on quite a feed.

They had em at Bloomington just across from C5 and you could visually see differences...more but, less real estate in front of front tire, and to the rear of the rear tire...nice and roomy on the inside. Actually is looked weird with the tires set at all four corners to the degree they were in contrast to the C5...but you knew it had more sticking power!

Jeff The PEP cars don't use manufacturer plates it was part of the securty thing a few years ago. My daughter is driving a black Intimidater this time and says she gets lots of NASCAR Earnhart questions at the gas pumps. If she comes back this weekend I think I will take it for a spin. Lyle
