I'm finally approaching chassis completion, and before the body goes back on, I'm thinking about validating as many components possible while everything is so accessible. Realizing that some things will have to come off to drop the body, I intend to istall radiator and shroud to the limits possible w/o benefit of body, rig some sort of temporary gauge cluster to monitor temperature and oil pressure during cam break-in, maybe even install ignition shielding after engine start-up, and if Chuck Rice will share his secrets on how to strap on the orange crate seat and pedal assembly, I'll take a few laps around the yard. Any and all comments on what I am about to do would be greatly appreciated, as most of you know by now, I rarely have had a clue about what I'm doing ;-), and if it weren't for all of the kind folks I've met through this forum (plus shop fumes and the beast) I wouldn't have made it this far !!

Re: '68 L79 body off start-up sanity check
3/4" plywood and C-clamps (don't want to scratch the frame paint ya know )
Plus, the plywood can hold the gallon milk jug full of gas. I would reccomend bungees to hold that down.
Mounting the steering wheel and short shaft to the steering box was the big challenge
Ok, enough is enough.
Hope all goes well for you Dave,

Re: '68 L79 body off start-up sanity check
I don't know if I ever want to drop the body back on, after $8000 and 7 months worth of stripping, sandblasting, painting, rebuilding, detailing....or was that $80,000 and 7 years ? What scares me is that I'm already thinking about doing another one !- Top
