    Front crossbember dent remover tool.

Hi, some may remember my previous post regarding the dents commonly found in the front crossbembers of corvettes from 1963 to 1982.

Anyways, it is my understanding that the center of the front crossmember on corvettes from 63 to 82 is identical. I would like to hear from as many people as possible that are familiar with that section of the car and would know if it is essentially the same. I have been told by one knowledgable person that they are essentiall the same but I want to here from others if possible.

I will be able to provide pictures of the final product soon if people are interested. Thanks in advance, Terry

There are some differences on the top side for dampner clearances, but I think the bottom side is the same....

Nice to know. I am only concerned about the bottom side. Thanks, Terry

I for one will be interested in your tool for the crossmember when you get it perfected. Mine is dented somewhat so I could use it. Thanks Tom

            nother way, surgery requireda

cut the dent section out, mig back in a correctly shaped piece of metal, stronger grade or a bit thicker.

                What's A Crossbember?

Is it like a widget? A finnigan pin? A kinniflin pin?

Re: Front crossbember dent remover tool.

Tool is for real and the machine shop will finish a small run of them next monday. It is a little nerve racking because if they don't build it right, I will have a garage full (34) and they will be useless to anyone.

I have heard that paragon has a replacement part for that section but I am not into cutting my frame up and welding upside down on my back. It gets pretty scary welding on a frame with the body still on it. There is typically a little grease in the crossmember and it will burn nicely and would love to start the whole car on fire. Body off would be much easier but not everyone is in that situation and not eveyone can use a mig welder (I can't).

What does Paragon sell that section for? Anybody know?

My tool works both ways, with or without the car on the body. I think that people would generally want to salvage the original section of the frame vs cutting it out. My tool can be used by people with different degrees of ability. I will let you all decide for yourself soon. I hope you are pleased with it. I would appreciate your honest feedback too. If people want them, I will keep making them, if not, we all know the answere to that one.

This is the first time I have ever ventured to do something like this. I hope it works out for us all. Best regards, Terry

Joe, may wife scolded me for my response. I think it was a little too over the top. I am not a social butterfly. If my comments seem crude, I appologize if they offend. I enjoy the conversation. Thanks, Terry
