    Re: drop tank

Curtis the tank sticker was not on your 63, 67 was the first year. Tank sheets show what engine came in the car along with other information. Without any documentation on a 67 a person could put a 427 tri-powered engine in place of the 327 and sell it for more money. Some say that there are more 427 tri-powered 67 Corvettes now than the factory ever put out the door. A 71 LS6 Corvette would bring lots more money that a base engine 71 454. Most owners want to see the tank sheet to see how their Corvette left the factory when other paperwork is unavailable.

      Re: drop tank

It is real easy to drop the tank. It is harder to not drop it and be sure your fingers are out of the way.

Basically, you have to remove the under car rear exhaust, spare tire carrier, wiring to the tank, fuel line, and then the brace that holds the tank. For some it helps to loosen the tank straps.

Be sure the tank is empty when you remove it or you will drop it. Think about how heavy a gallon can is, then think about this tnak holding 16 to 24 gallons, depending on the year.

As in most things, it helps to have a friend helping in case something is snagged or needing removing.

      --------
      Warning:
Gasoline is very dangerous, both as a flammable substance and as a toxic substance. Handle it at your own risk and follow all necessary safety precautions as show in the service manual or most repair manuals.
      --------

Tanks stickers began in 1967 up through the late 70s(?). The value of the tank sticker is it definitely tells you what your car came with. You may not care, but some people want proof before paying big dollars for rare cars. Without proof, it could be a made-up car and buyers can be hesitant.

Before you do any work, I would suggest that you go to our online store and buy the Assembly Information Manaul and the GM Service Manual for your car. There are a great asset in assembling and disassembling parts on your car.

            Re: drop tank - STOP

If your car is really unmolested, and no one has done much work on it, STOP! As many point out, there is the Bow Tie judging for cars that are exactly the way they came from the factory - no restoration, no rebuilding, etc. You might want to check on this BEFORE doing anything.

Ralph if you want a service manual for your 84 contact www.helminc.com and order one. Helm is the company that has produced the service manuals for GM and other cars for years. The Helm produced service manuals for earlier Corvettes are available from the NCRS store.

                    re STOP

Mike, the original owner of my 73 had the car repainted by the dealer because factory paint was so bad when he went to pick it up. He refused the car until they made it acceptable to him, it also does not have the original alternator. Because of this my local chapter told me it wouldnot qualify for bowtie.

                      Re: re STOP

Well, the alternator issue would NOT keep it from qualifying or obtaining a Bowtie award.
The repaint would, but the alternator surely would not.

You could still potentially qualify for 3 of the possible 4 Stars, and have a nice award.

Yes, and if everything else is still original, it would be a good source of information for those in your chapter to learn.

Oh yeah?! I'm not talkin' about Guido's deep dish pizza place here!...Has to have white linens, a maitre d', a sommelier, about six pieces of silver and two or three glasses at each place setting...a REALLY nice place.

Yeah, Ralph, I'm pulling your leg ...If you buy the manual(s) new, the order of magnitude is probably about two bills (maybe less)...uh, that's hundred dollar bills.

I would also shop ebay if I were you; but be advised, if you have two or three knuckleheads that need that manual, you'll end up paying nearly new price for used manual(s). I say manual(s), because at some point the C4s began an entirely separate manual for the electrical (and they dang well deserved it!)...not sure if this true for 84. You can always defer on the electrical manual, but something is always going to come up.
