Not As Bad As I Thought...

Ralph, Helm shows the 84 service manual and electrical trouble-shooting supplement for the bargain basement price of $74. You'll only have to give up one trip to Guido's.

      Re: re STOP

      Patrick:

I own a '73 coupe with 17,761 original miles on it. The exhaust piping has been changed, the original tires rotted and have been replaced. Master cylinder was replaced. Everything else is original, would this qualify for 4 star award?

        Re: re STOP

        Warren,

Without seeing the car at an event, I can't "guarantee" anything.

But, as an example, my 60,600 mile 72 has the exhaust, tires, a few hoses and belts replaced, and just earned her 4 Star/Bowtie award. Note my Suflower Yellow 72 below at the Windsor NCRS National one month ago. Note the BFG tires.

If I were you would I try for it? ABSOLUTELY!
In fact, the car doesn't have to run for Star judging, so if you still have the original tires, put them on and bring it out.

          Re luggage rack

patrick, i thought luggage racks were an after market item installed by the dealer.

              Chuck -
O K, I cheated. I looked up the price for the manuals at the link Jim referred me before I replied to his post.

For me it is not the cost of Guido's it is getting there that is expensive. Let's see, airfare to NYC . . .

making it easier to work on the toycar . . . priceless.

                Re: Re luggage rack

Yes, luggage racks were dealer installed (or aftermarket depending on style) in 1971. By themselves they are not a deal breaker for Bowtie. All the replaced items Patrick mentioned in his post were not sufficient, in his case, to keep the car from getting the Bowtie award.

                  Re: re STOP

                  Patrick:

Thanks. Unfortunately, the second owner(had car for 2 years) replaced tires and exhaust. The hoses look to be all original, however I'm not quite sure on the 3 belts. Two are embossed with lettering, one is stamped with lettering. All my reference materials stop after 1972, as my interest in Corvettes is mainly '68 thru '72 cars. Will be at Carlisle looking for goodies for a 1971. Would like to meet you. Warren

My belts are replacement also (Quanta).

I'll be at Carlisle in my usual Pebble Beach straw hat. I call it my "Mike and Chip" hat, as Mike Yager and Chip Miller (RIP) wear (wore?) similar ones.
Check at G110 to ask if they've seen me. I'd be happy to discuss your 73 with you - it sounds like a nice car.

Thankfully, nothing was sufficient to keep me from getting the Bowtie Award!

FYI, The luggage rack may have been dealer installed in 71, but in the case of my yellow car was also dealer installed in 72.
