    wcfb choke sticking

I have been experiencing an intermittant problem with the choke butterfly sticking (sometimes open, sometimes closed) on my 1960. THis would result in hard starting at the most in-opportune times. When I would attempt to repeatedly manually manipulate the butterfly open and closed, I would find that it would stick very often open or closed. I changed out the choke housing, stove spring and cover, with no apparant improvement. Last night while again beginning to remove the housing, I noticed that when I loosened the 3 screws that retain the stove cover, the binding of the butterfly was eliminated.Choke now works fine! Anyone else have this problem before, and is there a reference book somewhere that I can purchase which may contain a compilation of known difficulties and remedies specific to these models of car? God, I spent a lot of time chasing this one!!!

Don, Do you have the GM service manual for your 1960? I also understand that the Judging manual is beneficial for many of these details. If not they are available thru NCRS at a reasonable cost. Many troubleshooting items are in most manuals. When working on these older but lovely cars, there is no easy way to be an expert in all fields. It pays to be a NCRS member, use this website, participate in a local chapter where more Corvette knowledge is available for the sharing.

Your "binding" problem is a good example of things gone bad when we just don't know of these little details. "Eyeballing" alignment during assembly may help but, your "trials & tribulations" are some of the shared experience all of us in this hobby try to share and hope others will benefit from our experiences. I guess we all have "chalked" many up to "experience."

      Don,
I was having the same problem a few years ago with my WCFB and tried the same things you did. I ended up sending the carb to Bob Kunz (314-845-2566) for repair. It was repaired correctly and now functions as it should.
