I have all but ordered a Superior lift, although I really want the Double Park. I thank John Hinkley for the photos and answers to my many questions. In the end it came to $, the Double Park is going to be almost a $1000 more than the Superior with the same options. Steel cost are way up this year, and some of the discounts and free shipping that used to be available are not available any longer. I am waiting for a call back from Double Park to see if they can do any better on the price. I'll keep you posted, can't wait to have the thing delivered and put together.

      George,

If you haven't seen each type of lift in person, I'd highly recommend it. It was the in-person inspection that swayed us to the Double Park rather than the others. There can be reasons why others are cheaper!

John and I briefly inspected another make together this summer and remarked how much nicer ours were.

With free delivery and other perks no longer available as you stated in your post, all the MORE reason to check with LOCAL suppliers of commercial lifts. Many are now stocking parking lifts.

George, I too was torn between the Double Park and the Superior and just couldn't justify the difference in price for the DP. Over 30 of us bought Superior lifts in my group purchase and everyone is thrilled with them. I think you'll be happy too. Good luck, Mark.

I had a low ceiling garage so I sent drawings and measurements of my garage to the lift manufacturer. They confirmed that their lift would fit and built custom height stops on the lift. They also have a feature that is a hydraulic cutoff that stops the upward movement of the lift so it absolutely cannot go any higher - and hit the roof! The company is Stinger. I brought the lift home and assembled it myself. It is heavy so you need 2-3 good friend to help lift the parts. I also moved to a new house. I disassembled the lift and fortunately the moving company had 5 guys there so I didn't have to completely tear it down. I reassembled it with no problem - other than the hydraulic oil mess since you have to drain the cylinder.

You also need to consider the auto door opener and clearance needed. I raised my door and replaced the springs with a torsion bar. That made a huge difference in the way it opened and removed the springs and cables from alongside the car.

One caution. A member of my local Corvette club bought one of those $2000 four post lifts and the control rod broke the very first time he tried to release it. His car was stuck up in the air for days until the company (not Stinger) sent someone to repair it. According to him, he later found out it was made in China and was not the made in USA lift that the company also sells for a higher price. THe quality was highly inferior.

To all who have helped in my research and decision process,

I recounted my money today and called Jim Lewis at Double Park back, he gave a little and I gave a little. I am now the happy owner of the Double Park lift, I just need to find something to do now while I wait 5 weeks for delivery.

Thank you again for all of your input.

I checked yesterday with the largest local supplier of hydraulic lifts in the Middle Tennessee area, Shoemaker Equipment of Springfield Tn. They will sell a Rotary 4 post parking lift INSTALLED for $3,300. His price is up from $2,900 this year due to the price of steel. Until this recent price increase, his $2,900 installed price had been stable for 4 years.

I am sure you could/can get similiar pricing from a local lift supplier in any metropolitan area in the US.
