Re: the chevelle was the Z-16 and they only built

    Clem:

There were two differences between the engine installations of the Chevelle and Corvette. The cam and exhaust manifolds.

      Mike:

Aren't all Holley carburetors with three digit date codes (year/month/week-of- month)factory originals? Aren't all those with 4 digit (Julian dates) OTC replacements? OR is this only true of Corvettes and not Chevelles?

Re: Need Holley carb part # help

The date codes had to do with when the carb was manufactured, whether it was installed on the car at the factory, sold out of the dealers parts room, or from Honest Charley's Speed Shop (telling my age now).

joe: i think holley went to 4 digit date codes in early 70's. i have several 3247's that are tri-digit dated coded but are in 68 and 69, hence sevrice replacemnets as the 3247 was unique to the 66 425 hp vettes built in 65 and 66.mike

Dickie: we had a speed shop here in cumberland in the early 60's. it was owned by a fella whose first name was charlie but he wasn't from chatanooga as was Honest Charlie. the cumberland dude parked a beatup ole 57 vette in front of his Texaco/speed shop. he'd go to the local junk yard, buy a wornout 265 or 283 for 35 to 50 bucks , stop by the local chevy dealer for a pair of vette finned valve covers(about 15 bucks as i recall), plop them on the junkyard small block, drop it in the 57 vette, and sell them as vette motors for 250 to 300. he sold a bunch of the tired ole small blocks that way.aka Dishonest Charlie's Speed Shop.last i heard he was serving time in a Va State Prison. mike

With a GM #, this one was sold to GM

for use as a service replacement.

"Honest" Charlie Card was as his name implied, a card. I met him in the early 60's when I was buying parts from his wholesale house Speed Distributors Whse I believe. A real wheeler and dealer. Billy C on a little slower scale
