Re: Cruising With XM Satellite Radio

    Larry-----

It's not free to listen to broadcast AM and FM radio. The price is not paid in dollars, though. It's paid by having to listen to a bevy of commercials over-and-over again. Lately, the "price" has gotten to be exorbitant. When you consider the REAL price of broadcast radio, XM is a bargain.

I just hope that the "commercial-free" promise does not go away like it did for cable TV. But, if it does, there are other options. High capacity MP3 and other formats can pack a lot of music into a very small package. One unit I saw recently has a capacity of approximately 13,000 tracks. That's almost 800 hours of music or over 1,000 CDs.

My Caddy has it. Channel 6, Fox News and conservative talk, man, it doesn't get much better and other than tunnels and mountains, you don't loose the signal. Punch on the cruise control and just listen.

Joe - thx for the very complete overview....I haven't really looked at these much but it sounds like a great product! I really get sick of all the ads driving to work every day....seems like when I go (6:30AM) they just load the airwaves with ads.....Craig

XM is awesome! I have had it over a year. You truly will truly be too spoiled to listen to regular radio again after having XM. It's kind of like the cell phone - you don't know how you lived without it until you got one. I don't even buy CDs anymore, with all of the variety on XM. Plus the artist and title readout for each song is nice, too.

I am sure the XM experience is great. It sounds like a perfect solution for those bored with regular radio, commercials, etc. I sure am. However, there is nothing that will take the place of a great CD, that has more than one good song on it. I am interested in other songs by the Artist, not just the songs that became popular on the radio. There are a lot of great bands, old and new, that made records/CD's with songs that you have never heard on the radio, and won't hear on XM either. They are sometimes called, "B-sides". And those songs won't be heard unless you purchase the CD. XM is an exciting new way to listen to radio, but will never be better than a whole CD from one of your favorite bands. Just my .02 of course.....
