        Re: Nassau (66) =Marina (67) blues

        Jerry,
Laguna was the dark blue offered only in 1966. Pretty color. Hope this helps.

Re: Marina Blue with #450 Interior

interesting side note. Glasurit is owned by BASF. They bought R&M Paints from united tech in the 80's The merger was a very happy marrage that brought european technologies to the US. R&M paints supplied a lot of OEM finishes including the Corvette.

            Steve, Glasurit paint

            Steve,
As you stated earlier, since the lead has been removed from the reds, at least one fellow I know swears by Glasurit for having the best reds including Marlboro Maroon on the market. He won't shoot anything but Glasurit for a Marlboro car. Any truth to that or perhaps just personal preference.

              Re: Steve, Glasurit paint

Well it sounds like he has a strong reason for choosing Glasurit over the other choices. I was the same way when I was in a shop. I knew different paint companies would match some colors better than others and that guided my choice. It sounds like your painter is speaking from experience and you can't find that in a book... The company has been a pioneer with BC/CC. Back when I was working for them they had optional formulas to convert colors over to bc/cc and single stage. Our American companies were trying to experiment with clear lacquer as the refinish answer for the first bc/cc cars.
The one thing you must do is stay with their system all the way from your primers to your topcoats. The products are made to work together. There primers have been developed to "accept" their topcoats and "Meld" with them for adhesion and durability.
I think its an excellent product and it sounds like your painter has the experience with the product that your looking for.

                Re: Scott, Glasurit paint

                Scott,
My buddy won't shoot anything but Glasurit. It's used by many of the German auto companies also. When one puts the exhausting amount of prep work into bodywork, why shoot some cheap paint to save money. They smell offensive too. I end up doing all the prep work on my cars, so I don't risk less expensive brands. I have used Diamont. sp? It's owned by BASF, but it's usually less costly. I know some of their reds can cost more than Glasurit. I heard one guy complain that the Glasurit bc/cc dries too hard and makes it difficult to color-sand. Boo-hoo, put some elbow grease into it.

                  Re: Scott, Glasurit paint

They all dry too hard to wet sand if you leave the sitting for two weeks. Next day is time to color sand and buff. Don't ask me how I know this. All I know is that PPG Deltron that is 30 days old is like trying to sand concrete. I would have to assume that Glasurit is the same way. I know that the old original DuPont Imron was that way.

                    Re: Scott, Glasurit paint

The key is time. You only have a short window to buff the urethanes. This is because it must be soft enough so the heat generated by the buffer can reflow it. It actually melts the surface of the paint to reflow and become smooth.
R&M paints first introduced Miracryl 2 as a true BC/CC paint finish. They prided themselves that they supplied the OEM BC/CC for the early Corvette BC/CC finishes. ( we will not talk about the clears blowing off in sheets)
When they were bought by BASF which also owned Glasurit we had a very happy marrage. Diamont is a result of this merger. They had all the experience and were the pioneers with BC/CC.

                      I hear that Dick..

I painted a 65 mustang convertible for a friend with a solid Deltron, even two days later that stuff was hard to buff.
