    C2 Exhaust bracket?

    Dear Members,

If I switch from my stock 67 sb exhaust system to a 2 1/2", can I still keep the original bracket? Do I have to get a 2 1/2" bracket instead, or can I crush the exhaust clamps around this one? Thanks!

Could you do what you suggest? Yes, you could. What you'd end up with is a mess, though. The 2-1/2" pipes will not fit into the radius of the 2" bracket "yokes". So, if you used this bracket, just the edges of it would contact the 2-1/2" pipe and "bite into" the pipes. And, that's just ONE of the problems that would be created.

Forget it. The bracket is GM-discontinued but available in reproduction and not all that expensive. It's not that hard to change, either. Plus, these clamps do have a service life and who knows how much is left in yours, anyway. What happens to them is that the curved section of the clamp which contacts the exhaust pipe becomes through-hardened due to the extreme heating and cooling cycles it experiences. Consequently, it becomes brittle and breaks off the rest of the bracket. Then, you need a new one, anyway.

Tried that on my 70. Didn't work. Ordered the 2 1/2" bracket from paragon. BTW the exhaust got so distorted from the 2" bracket, I had to weld at that location to get it to seal. Posted further down on the nightmare of trying to remove the trans without removing the exhaust. Good luck

Joe, shouldn't Justin's car have come...

with the 2 1/2 inch bracket. His car is a 300hp 4speed and I thought the only 67's with 2 inch bracket were automatics.

I believe all small block 67's came with 2 inch manifolds regardless of HP or transmissions.

                        Scott,

You are correct about the manifolds. The bracket in question relates to the size of the exhaust pipe.

Wayne, sped right through that one..

So that I understand, would the pipes change to 2 1/2 inches after the manifolds for different engine/trans applications?
