    55 plug wires

Dang it!! I had to buy and replace the $160.00 Lectric Limited shielded plug wire on my 55 Corvette today.
And it's only been 10 years and some 60,000 miles ago. Only good thing is that back then they also were $160.00.
Also had to change the original old AC 44-5 plugs with new original ones.
Now the front engine support is leaking from being ate way R/S and I put it on new only 24 years ago and drove it putting 100,000 miles on the Corvette. Bummer!
Have to get ready for 05 National.

Odd, I still have the original

shielding on mine, except for the #6, which an idiot gas station guy threw out in 1963, and I replicated a few years ago. I replaced all the wires then, not for the first time. They're damaged in a couple spots, but so far still on the car. 3' of shielding cost me a few bucks, and the new wires were about $30. I used a generic set with cap ends not attached, and trimmed them to length.

Dave you used the first design plug wires that came out years ago, where the shielding was large so that you could replace the inner wires. RIGHT? The set I took off are the real original design , one wire is so so #4 but still good . write me and you can have them if you wont?

Dave, I noticed in the photo you provided that the engine is painted a different shade than the traditional Chevy orange (pinkish-red?). Where can I get a a supply of that shade of paint? Also, is that paint color called out in the JM? Thanx!

Don Just use RED I use Ford RED, 55 had no orange coloring . The 56 corvette engine is the same. Then 57 used orange-gee color.

                            Chevy Red

After MUCH correspondence here and elswhere, I painted my engine from "incorrect" orange to correct 55-56 Chevy red. Seems more people favored the red shade from POR-15, so I used that. The photo color does not look right, but I haven't had the time to take another one in better light. The "flow" of the POR-15 paint was so good I was able to brush paint the engine in the car without any brush marks in the dried result.
