Re: 1968 Cage & Frame concerns
Jerry's right! I had to weld the cage by all body mounts on my '72, as well as almost the entire windshield frame. Also the front frame crossmember was rusted as well as the rad. support. Fortunately, the frame was replaced by the previous owner ($4,000.00+ in 1992 dollars). Fortunately, I was able to do the work myself so it wasn't that expensive, but it was a 2 year nightmare that I would never do again! Like Jerry said, the welding has to be perfect as these are structural, stressed members. There's a safety issue that shouldn't be ignored. If you are good with a MIG/TIG and can do glass work and don't mind that type of project, then it might not be that bad for you. But expect to spend alot on incidentals. Do as much research as you can on the car including cost to replace parts etc. before making your decision. Remember, the best way to make a small fortune restoring rusted basket-case Vettes is to start with a BIG Fortune!
Good Luck, Bob Booth
