Keep doing what you are doing. It's stuff like this from you and others that has helped me clarify what I want out of all this, not to mention the technical and other interesting things you post.

Drove my 72 for its Top Flights (535 miles one-way to PA).
Drove my 72 to gets its Bowtie (190 miles each way to Windsor).

Thinking of driving my 72 and getting its 5th Star and Duntov (MI to MA).

It's possible. Most people, however, don't want to, and prefer the "points cushion" afforded by trailering. In addition, driving points do not count towards a Duntov, so there is little reason to drive to those meets on your repro bias plys or NOS/original tires.

It is all in the head of the owner. I have a tired survivor 57 that I have owned for 20 years...and have resisted restoring. In the 80's the car was treated like an ugly duckling..and without fail..the remark was..when are going to restore it.

Then came the Bloomington Survivor award in 1990 and this car became the first 57 to win the award. That started a sea change. Years later I brought the car to my fiend Mike Yagers Funfest. By this time..people really started to appreciate the meaning of an unrestored car..

During that Funfest.. the editor and photographer of one of the major Corvette magazines went crazy over the car, did a photo shoot resulting in a 4 page centerfold article with my son and me in the car.

I too like most people enjoy and appreciate beautifully restored cars but I have also found a deep appreciation for the tired old workhorses and everything in between.

Even the freshly finished high restoration deteriorates over time. I think you will find most long time Corvette owners will tell you.. enjoy your car..time is short!

It is also important to remember that unrestored old cars can become problematic and dangerous with worn out parts and especially old wiring. So common sense comes into play.

Cranky old veterans like Roy will help you find suitable parts at reasonable prices to keep your car on the road!

Re:Dennis, The least I would ask is that you

Joined eight years ago after I bought my 71. Car was a mess and now for the last five years it a top flight every good day driver. I have had it judged almost every year, and it helps me keep it in top flight shape - which is a lot of work. But thats what I want. I don't always agree with the rules and the way they seem to change, but I accept them and go on. Been thinking of higher awards and not really sure if I want to go on as to the expense of it all. My ego has been satisfied, but the smile I get driving my girl is priceless. Yeah, she can get the other awards, she that good and I don't own a trailer or a car that could even tow her if I had one. Some people like to have one in the garage (trailer), and thats great for them, we who can and do drive ours just have a different bond with them, especially if you are the one doing most of the upkeep on them. I smile at my piece of art when I walk through the garage, But as I said, I smile more when the T-tops are off and were going down the road.

I've done more than one 6,000 mile...

...round trip to an NCRS Convention, either in a '57 or a '62. I am not driven by awards of any type, just enjoy the friendship and the cars. A/C ??? I have to assume that is some reference to alternating current... 120/220/440 ???

Couldn't have said it better, Dave. Got my first C2 last fall, and this is exactly my philosophy
