    '67 with 195's

In the early '80's I had a '67 big block air coupe with this size Michelins Red Line on it. The car rode and handle like a dream. I think that this size tire also came on the TR6. I guess that the reason that these tires were on the car was because of the redline. The '67 is the one car that I wish I had back, someone told me that it was in Florida.

      Re: ? 195/75R15 too small

      John,

Tire/wheel looks great. Looks like they even narrowed the red stripe to something closer to original also. Seems like all of the reproduction red and gold line repo's had the stripe much wider than it was supposed to be. I seem to remember 11/32" for the original width but that could be incorrect.

Thanks Jim. Where did you find this info? Is this size from GM or the tire mfg?

            "66 "JG /third addition/Page 53

But I also remember getting verification from somebody else on this a long time ago...I think it was Cooker Tires.

              Re: "66 "JG /third addition/Page 53

Thanks Jim. That's probably correct. I know the real early reproductions had a stripe that was probably closer to 7/16" and it was just too much color. Looked bad. Looks like the red stripe on John's tire is thinner, the way it should be.

I remember something about 11/16" from years ago and I think it was even called 11/16" in a 65 issue of Corvette News that introduced the new gold stripe option but that could be wrong.

215/70R-15 are essentially the same diameter and revs per mile as 7.75-15; 6.70-15 is a little taller and 2 percent lower revs per mile.

Look at your Spring and Summmer 2003 issues or The Corvette Restorer.
