[Early C4] Handling Unclear Description In Manual

The 1984-1986 Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide, First Edition states:

"1984 and 1985 optional top is one piece removable and transparent smoked gray RPO CC3."

When my 1985 was last flight-judged, the judges noticed that my top had a blue tint (I agree that it does) and deducted for originality . Since than , I have asked non-leading questions (both in this forum and in other on-line forums) about what color folks with an 1984 or 1985 think their transparent top is and by far and away the most common answer is 'blue' or 'blueish'. I think my top is original - it has the specified metal molding, and it has the correct markings and reasonable Julian date. Moreover, my 1985 was not the best cared for in its early life and I honestly don't see effort being put into replacing the transparent top early on.

What should I do? I'm having the car flight judged again this weekend...

    John:

The top tints "blueish" when you look from the inside out, it looks "dark" when trying to look in from the outside. The common term is "smoked". Later optional tops are a bronze color, and are obvious when looking from the outside in.
I am the original owner of a very low mileage 1985 with the optional top. I will be at the Atlantic City show this Sunday. If you are there, you're welcome to come on over and have a look at mine.

      Joe,

Thanks! There's nothing better than the on-site reference.

      What color is your 1985?
