    62 speaker bezel install

    Hi all.

I was trying to install my speaker with screen and bezel in my 62. I'm having a problem getting the nuts to grab the studs on the bezel. My speaker is a reproduction speaker. The bezel has a taper at the ends of the studs and they just stick through the nut. There is not enough stud for the nuts to catch. If I turn the nut around, it grabs. But thats not how it goes and you can't tighten it that way. Are there special thin nuts for the speaker? Is the bezel supposed to just lay snug on the dash pad or is it supposed to recess in the pad? Any help is appreciated on getting this speaker in.

    Thanks....John

It's been too many years since I installed mine with a new pad so I do not remember about the stud length, but the bezel sits on top of my pad.

Just did this. The bezel will recess or indent the pad some. Not much, but noticeable. That should allow the studs to protrude enough on the backside for the nuts to get started. The speed nuts cut their own threads. If you've got a new bezel, it may help to start the nuts with the bezel off the car. If you've got an old bezel, sometimes the studs get too small because they've been all chewed up by lots of nuts starting mew threads. One of the studs is tough to get to.

You may have the wrong size nuts. The speaker could be too thick. Or the studs on the bezel may not be long enough. Hard to tell without seeing it.

        Thanks Chris

The Bezel is New as is the Dash Pad. I had a friend push down on the bezel while I tried to screw on the nuts. No luck..I might try shaving the plastic on the speaker to get more stud showing. It's all I can think of unless they sell thinner nuts.

        Thanks ...John

          John,
I just went throught this on my 60. First Make sure your speaker bezel will fit flush with the pad there should be no gaps between the pad and the bezel. If there is you will may have to dig out a little foam from the pad around each stud base. Also my bezel has a little dimple on the left side that you will have to dig into the pad to make it fit snuggly. DocRebuild sells the correct speed nuts you will need to hold the speaker to the bezel. Part no #9647407. Get your speed nuts started first while the bezel is out. Having a friend then push down on the bezel you should be able make these nuts grab...Scott

            Hi Scott

Are these nuts for the bezel from DocRebuild real thin? Cause i'm trying to use regular speed nuts which are about 3/16" - 1/4" tall.I would need them to be less than that for them to grab.
