I'd sure appreciate some feedback on an interesting part of my '67 that I recently discovered when I powered washed my driver's side spindle. After I dissassembled my chassis, I noticed that the driver's side spindle was half cast and half painted in engine color. There were also several obvious orange paint drips down the edge of the cast portion of the spindle. The pass side spindle was all cast with no orange paint. Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so, why does my driver's side spindle have so much sloppy orange paint on it where the pass side is devoid of any orange paint?
Photograph the spindle with the paint. Clean it up and repaint it like it was. These are markings for "quality/ID/position/final-torqued" that appear on various items on the chassis. There was probably some paint on the other spindle that has worn off....not painted to the extent of the left spindle. Did you also note that the nuts securing the "steering arm/knuckle" to the spindle had some yellow paint on them? Sometimes the knuckles had white paint markings. The pitman arm had a blue marking and the tie-rod ends had yellow markings.... and the list goes on......
Steve. I carefully documented each component after I power washed the car and its sub-assemblies, but only the driver's side spindle had the obvious factory orange paint applied. The pass side spindle was completely devoid of any paint. The chassis started off pretty darn nice before I lifted the body and powered washed it. It was an East Texas car from '67 until 3 months ago when I brought it up to Missouri.
Then remark it as original. You have photos to prove the original markings and locations. I found marks different from the "norm" on my car and thats the way I restored it.....
Pictures?? Do I have pictures? Steve, I have so many photos that my wife think I'm having an afair with my digital camera. I have a bunch of photos of the spindle and every component that I could photo. I'll have a photo album with me when I get it judged--just in case a question arises.
