    Winter Regional in Orlando

Do any of the major Corvette parts rip-off art...., er, sellers peddle their wares at this event? I am talking about CC, Paragon, Zip, etc etc. I need stuff and would like to pick it up rather than feed the UPS machine.

    Joe,

They'll all be here. C'mon down and enjoy the weather. We'll try to schedule our monthly hurricane for AFTER the event.

      Hi Mike,

I'm looking forward to it, as I'll be (finally) getting started on my " '85 Road to the Crossed Flags" campaign.
I need a decklid protector for the '65 ragtop, among other things. I called CC, where I was told that they would NOT be there. I'll be more persistent and talk to the right person next time.

By the way...........you asked me about the lash setting on the '65 SHP. Yesterday, I set them to a "tight .025" and installed stock stud nuts. Engine pulls about 8-9 in-hg @ 700 RPM. Idle was raised to 850 where the vac reads about 10 inches. Car runs great. Yes, the midrange does take a slight "hit", but she's VERY STRONG on the top.

      Best,
      Joe

You definitely won't be disappointed, it's an excellent event. Weather typically in the mid/high 70's and lots to do in the immediate area for the whole family. (if so equipped) I may even show up this year. (watch your speed on Hwy 75 once you enter Florida. the FHP would like to get a little chunk of the incomming revenue also) Mike Cobine will be parked on the side of 75 in Ocala welcoming all the members and giving out free oranges.

The vendor area is always packed with sellers and some really nice parts change hands. This has always been a good event for parts.

        What's a deck lid protector?

On the valve lash, I think you may have gone "through" the area of best all around performance at your latest .025" setting. Those numbers will indeed pump out some power at 7000 RPM but the mid range will be a little flat, as you described. Next time you adjust, try .025" and see if you like it better. There will be a considerable increase in mid range HP with no loss at the top.

if you have a tall rear gear,3.36 or 3.55

i would not run the .025 lash because starting out will be rought. back when these mid jers were new every one who bought a new corvette with a SHP engine had 4.11 rear gears which works better with .025 lash.

            Mike,

Last time I was at the event was 2000, when it was at the Hyatt, Orlando. The swap meet was second only to Carlisle. I thought that it was a beautiful venue.........lush, quiet tropical gardens, etc. Have not yet been to Old Town, and hope that it's just as nice, without too much "hustle and bustle". I hope to see some of you-all there, and meet the "people pounding the keyboards".

I'll be transporting the '85 via the Autotrain, which will take us from Lorton, VA to Sanford, FL. so, the friendly local cops shouldn't be a major problem.

The "deck lid protector" is a 2"-3" wide plastic strip which electrostatically sticks to the decklid along the rear bow. It prevents the weatherstripping from scarring the paint. Works great and well worth the 20 bucks. Only a few of the thieves, er, vendors sell it. I lost mine at a show this past summer.

              Clem:

I've got a 3.70, and just a slight bit of clutch slipping gets her off the dime smoothly. You definately can't dump it all at once, that's for sure. It did take some getting used to, at first.
First time I set up the lash, in 2002, they were set to .028". It was actually harder to get her rolling back then. Probably a combination of my inexperience, and the brand new, tight engine. The Jerry Luck carb rebuild in 2003 didn't hurt, either.

You won't find me giving out free oranges, I'll be at the show looking for parts. I'm usually the only guy without a Corvette t-shirt on.

I'm amazed you don’t know what a deck lid protector is. They come in three types - blonde, brunette, and redhead.

Strange I can't find a picture of one - usually they are all over the Internet.

I just got my paperwork for the Mecum auction. It will not be held at Old Town this year.At first I was a little disapointed, but now when I think about it they took up a lot of space and it is probably better that they moved on.It is going to be about 11 miles East on 192, I don't think I want to fight that Orlando traffic in January so I probably won't even register.Tom

                    Re: Winter Regional in Orlando

That really messes things up. While I'm not there to attend the auction, I do like to wander over and check out some of what is happening, plus it is a good chance to check cars for various items you are trying to learn about.

Last year I was there primarily for the auction, and it would have stunk if I had to go 11 miles on 192 (have you been in that traffic lately?) each time between the auction and the swap meet.

Granted there isn't enough room there for both, but that is something they need to resolve. Too bad Disney was so expensive.

                        Re: Winter Regional in Orlando

Not sure if it was the best, because it was HOT out there with no shade. And it seemed like a long walk to everything.

Still, it was easy access, lots of parking, roomy, lots of swap and show space, a great indoor show space, and so on.

The drag was there was little walk-in traffic. People didn't just drive by and say, "Hey, there is a Corvette show!" You HAD to know it was there to find it and I'm sure the walk-in traffic in Old Town helps.

And it was a LONG walk with something heavy back to the parking area.

                          Joe,

Meant to say, "try .028" on your next valve adjustment". (not .025")

                            Joe,
You might check with the vendor/vendors that you are focusing on as they don't bring "everything" due to space limitations.

I agree that the auction was nice to have. I also used it to look at car's for different referance's.I also would bid on something on occasion, and I bought a couple there. And yes I was at Old Town last weekend, and the traffic was horrific. In January it will be much worse.I like the idea of having it at Old Town because I can park the car on Thursday and don't have to move it till Sunday, everything was in one spot.
