66 halo panel and trim moldings

At a chapter judging event I got dinged for the finish on the halo panel and trim moldings - judging manual says "full gloss" - mine were judged "too glossy". Any suggestions on the correct paint to achieve the correct level of full gloss?

John: suggest you first try dulling the gloss down by hitting them with some rubbing (not polishing) compound. You might have to blend in a little pumice powder, but probably not.

If you end up repainting, then you get to experience the wonderful black art of "flattening agents"! also known as trial and error...

unbuffed lacquer will get you the right sheen.

If you're going to repaint it, make sure you test the new paint over the old on a spare piece of plastic. Some paints, particularly laquers, will peel off the underlying paint, if it was enamel. Try plastic-kote semi-gloss. It is actually more glossy than the name implies, without being too much. Again, test it over your existing paint elsewhere first.
