    10.sec. L88

In musclecar enthusiast mag.in the F.A.S.T.class a 69L-88 ran a 10.99 1/4 mile on stock tires .F.A.S.T. is an acronym for factory appearing /stock tires.the cars have to look concours-correct, right down to the casting numbers, full exhaust and the same kind of tires they rolled off assembly line with.also have to sound stock at idle.rules allow big-inch stroked engines.

Shame to blow those original date blocks!

Why don't they allow any date equivalent blocks? I hate to see those original date blocks - BB Chev, Boss 429, Hemi, etc. - get wasted by a bunch of drag racers when a late model block is essentially identical (and a whole lot cheaper). But then again, I guess it's a way to keep it a club for those who can afford to blow that kind of money, kinda like vintage racing that only allows original documented race cars to compete (most can't afford an original ZO6 to run).

my guess would be that the 69 L-88 didn't have its original engine installed on that high ten's run.mike

If it's the Blue L88 from from Minnesota it's not an original block. He's had the fastest car 2 out of 3 of the last 3 years. I think the motor is stroked to 468 CID too, with a 3spd Turbo. The car is definetly stock looking, which is what their rules call for, but you can do what ever you want, practically, inside the motor. If I remember right he's running 14:1 compression.

-----The fast class guys build thier motors to soften up the bottom end as much as possible and still have a good top end so that the car can pull like a freight train once hooked up. Even then they tend to walk the cars out a bit and then stomp. There is a ton of thought and work built into that high 10sec. time, believe me!!!
-----Go to a good vintage drag race weekend sometime, Mark. You might find that that the "bunch of drag racers" you refer to are really nice people. Clup and I will vouch for them, as we both have a bit of seat time.........Bill S

10.99 w/a 468 ci Vet ? How about a 69 427 Camaro, NHRA A/stock record holder at 9.99 set April 16 2005. or a 2001 5.7 Firebird A/(factory) Fuel Injected automatic(A/FIA) at 10.17 ET. This is a stock computer tuned car. These cars have lower gear ratio's, headers, etc. but are factory weight and displacement. My point being nothing amazes me with the new technolgy.

if i remeber correctly we had john mahers 68

L-88 running in the low 11s BUT with slicks back in 68. to keep the rear end under the car we had to bolt on a sold traction bar running from under the diff case foward to the the frame crossmember this kept the diff from moving around. i will see john today and see what he remembers. he is younger than me so his memory is better than mine.

Clem, When you were running low 11's were you in the NHRA class B/sports(B/SP)? What year was the car and what color was the L88 ?
