    Shipping charges on ebay.

I purchased a front license plate bracket for a 68-69 corvette on ebay from a guy that goes buy the usere name dpzcar. Maybe an NCRS member??? I don't know. I guess I will take a chance venting. In any case he lives back East and I live out West. Item must weigh less than a pound and will easily fit a standard priority mail package. Sooooooo....the guy sends me an invoice for the part $15.00 (item) + $26.00 (shipping?) = $41.00 total? I complained and he said his son does all the shipping stuff. I told him to fix it. He came back and said the new charges were $15.00. Said to me, "we are new at this." I told him I want a break down on the charges and he lowered the shipping to $12.00. Hmmmmm? This guy needs to pull his head out of his A--hole! I apolligize if I offended anyone. Terry

There's no excuse for this by a seller, but if you don't see shipping charges shown on an ebay listing, email the seller with your zip code and ask what it will be. That's the only way to avoid this, unfortunately. If you aren't satisfied with the way he handles this, go online to whatever service he used, fedex.com, etc., and check the rate yourself by entering both your zip codes and the weight, print out the actual shipping charge and email it to him.

If you dont get satisfaction, you can always give him a neutral with an explantion that he overcharge on freight.

          Turn him in to eBay

Excessive shipping charges is a common ploy to avoid eBay fees and so they go after this. (You thought they would do it to help you?)

There are many who can ship in an envelope for $.35 to $1.25 and yet they charge $10 ro $15 as "flat rate" shipping. It is how they get the $10 they really want when the auction was won for a buck or two.

If you see an auction with "flat rate" shipping listed, check if they will ship actual charges. If not, either don't bid or accept that you are paying too much.

Yes some sellers have very high shipping charges. I have sold on-line before and charge "actual shipping charges only". All I can say is; buyer beware!

              Hi Terry

I too have noticed some items had huge shipping charges that is not right. These items were small and not heavy. I have shipped for alot less than that. What I figured is that these people who charge more are just trying to make more money for the part they sold through higher shipping charges.

                Re: Shipping charges on ebay.

I own A business and ship my products all over the country. Some items we ship with small package carriers like ups, fed-ex etc., others are shipped by LTL truck common carriers, and I can tell you that not only e-bay is ripping off the consummer on freight charges. Just look at the charges listed on your parts invoices from any of the large supply houses! In the past I have ordered small parts from a local dealer here in NY (about 1 hour away by car) and have paid more in shipping charges on his invoices than it would take me to ship a 50 pound package across country. Even after factoring in Insurance costs , packaging charges ( commonly called handling charges) and the new fuel surcharges imposed by vertually all carriers. Here is what I do now: when I purchase anything I give the vendor MY account number with a specific carrier, with instructions to have the carrier bill my account. Problem solved. I realize that most of you don't have this option but if you take better control of the trafficing of your parts you can better control the cost.

                    Terry,
"Shipping and Handling" is just another ripoff way that many who sell on e-bay drive up their profit. I have been charged $5.00 shipping and received the merchandise in an envelope with less than $1.00 postage. For this reason, when I sell on e-bay I always state in my ads that buyer pays only ACTUAL shipping charges and I give them the choice of whether they want Post Office, UPS, or FedEx as I have been ripped off many times by excessive shipping costs (often more than the product being purchased) and I don't want to do it to others. This is one of the bad things about e-bay.

I will give him a neutral. I still think he over charged me with the $12.00. I won't buy from him any more. I smelled it a mile away. I don't care at this point. If he tried dicking me around I would let my ebay rating speak for itself. Terry

                        Re: Shipping charges on ebay.

I always try to state the charges or I state that shipping will be actual shipping charges via whatever carrier. I ship my tool to the East coast for $13.00 dollars and it weighs in at over 10 pounds. So, I think that even though he dropped his shipping twice to $12.00, I feel he is overcharging me.

                        Take car or care, Terry

                          Terry,
Put a neutral on him and state why. A few days ago I saw an Ebay item of six retainer clips for window cranks and door locks for a C2 and the seller listed shipping as $3.95. I asked why such a high shipping cost and wouldn't be easier to put them in an envelope and put a 37 cent stamp on it and call it a day. Never did hear back from him.

Could be (I stress COULD) that $3.95 is the USPS minimum charge for the smallest Priority mailing box. The box is supplied by the USPS. Provides more protection than an envelope. It makes it real easy for the seller.

What did the auction list the shipping as. if it was not specified then I would say he could charge what ever he fealt. if it was specified did he charge you over that,if he charged you over what was listed in the auction then I would say he deserves feedback explaining the incorrect charges.

Me personally have sold parts on ebay. One of the parts I sold I placed a flat S/H charge of $25,00 dollars. I sent the part out insured and it cost me just under $20.00 dont you know the buyer emails me asking for the differance between what it cost and what my flat rate was. it was just over 5 dollars. I explained it was a flat rate price for S/H thats what he agreed to. I asked was he serious and he explained it was the pricable of it.

I then asked how was the packaging.was the fragile part PERFECT, he said yup. I said figure the other 5 dollars was my pay for spending 2 hours packaging it.That was the handeling part of the deal. He ended up giving me great feed back for my carefull packaging.

give us a link to the auction
