    Re: Nice description.

    GL Anderson,
I was thinking of buying your photograph on eBay but is the quality any better then shown on the auction, and do you have anymore pictures of your cars? Also how much is shipping. By the way I am the one who asked him the question on the original eBay listing. I am happy this is getting in the car community, and I hope the seller gets what he deserves

      Atta Boy Jerry

there are those who just read fraudulent stuff and wish they had run the scam, and then there are those who just shake their heads, and then there are those who step up and do their best to let the Corvette community at large know the truth - you know I respect your efforts Jerry! These damn L88 and L89 fakers need the light of truth to shine brightly on them and their evil ways!

        And......

I've been looking closely at the repair order for the 4-speed transmission and I believe there are a few things that don't quite add up. The prices shown for the parts used do not even come close to the price that would have been charged in June of 1968. Here are the first three in the list as shown on the repair order and the more correct prices below.

        3905466, Gr 4.421...Gear, transmission countershaft $122.00.
(GM list in 1972 was $110.00 and DL cost was $65.99)

        3925691, Gr 4.351...Gear, transmission main drive $85.00.
(GM list in 1972 was $60.20 and DL cost was $36.13)

        3880845, Gr 4.415...Gear, transmission 3rd speed $61.50.
(GM list in 1972 was $60.15 and DL cost was $36.10)
(GM parts book list price in 1969 was $53.25)

The prices shown in the ebay ad would appear to be closer to the list prices in roughly 1974. Prices would have been increasing as time went by so the original 1969 prices that I posted would have been even less.

Since this was a warranty repair, which this obviously was because there's no customer total for parts and labor, it would have shown the price of parts as dealer cost plus 10%. The parts dept couldn't make up their own prices for any warranty replacement parts.

The same is true for warranty time allowed for the repair. Every repair operation had an exact time and also an operation number. I don't remember the actual time GM allowed to remove and reinstall a 4-speed transmission in the 1967 warranty time allowance book but I believe it was less than the three hours shown on the repair order.

        Just my opinion.......

                To All,

As I've been sitting here reading all of this good info. on this whole fradulent ebay deal. It's lead me to some of my dad's old Shriner things including his old Shriner fez. If I knew where to send the fez to this guy I would knowing my dad would approve of and have a good laugh. Anyway, good work guys!

That is good work on the outing of the fake repair order. There are others here with price books that could probably narrow things down even further. IMHO that repair order was a way to show the tranmission was a close ratio and not the standard ratio 4 speed. GL

Michael, I don't know if you noticed it but the fourth number down on the repair order, #357239 I believe, did not exist in 1968. In 1968 a 3-4 synchro was #3924113 and it remained this number until it was replaced by #357239 in 1975.

                        Re: And......

Yup, you nailed it Larry. Thanks. I was just in the middle of trying to find that number. The latest printing of the parts book that I have is 1974 and they still list the 3924113. I was pretty sure six digit numbers probably started somewhere around late 1974 or early 1975. I looked through every parts and supersession book I have but I only go up to 74 and that number never shows up.

Also, the prices that he shows would probably be just about correct for the 1975 time period, not even close to 1968 prices. Looks like the repair order is actually from some other car but the heading info and dates have been changed. As far as I'm concerned, the entire repair order is out of the race. The part numbers and prices proves it beyone doubt.

                          Re: Great Job Everyone...except

To all following the story. We assumed most or all of the bidding on this car was as fake as the car itself. But the questions to our members ebay document listings indicates there are real bidders out there. So the lesson for all of us is that we need to be active and proactive in defending the integrity of the Corvette hobby. It was a lot of work for GL and Larry and others to expose this fraud and we must continue to be diligent. It helps when some of it is fun, and there are those of us who enjoy the imperfect car, but we should never misrepresent it. Keep up the good work. Would love to see one of the Corvette magazines publish not only the Shriner story, but this story of how the Corvette hobby is defended...thanks to all....brad

brad bank, that is a great idea. for starters it should be in the Corvette Restore, and then the other magazines. I know I don't know much compared to some of you guys but I will try and help if needed

                              Jay,

I took it with a little half frame windup 35 mm slide camera (I think it was an Ansco) back in 1981 at Huckleberry Lake north of Yosemite at about 7000 elevation. It took me about 5 shots to get the smile right from this wonderful pack animal, he was just like a puppy dog.

If any members of this forum would like a copy of the picture, you don't have to bid on it, just email me.
