More M22 ammo -- DiLorenzo vs. bogus L88

Looking at the P-o-P imprint on that Rosen-Novak work order, I make out the trans assy code of P7M29 (August 29, 1967 model year). Comparing with P-o-P of Tony DiLorenzo car # 9097, which has trans code of P717 for July 17th (ie. the old 1966 and prior model year method of coding). Many are saying that Tony's car was the first L88, and I have no reason to doubt this.

My hypothesis is that GM made a "batch" of M22's (just like the M22's of late April 1965). Car #9097 got one of this assembly run, even though the car was produced 6 months later.

All the more strange that supposed L88 # 2390 happens to have its M22 coded like a vanilla Muncie. Can just hear St.Louis calling Indiana plant and requesting they build one more M22, with appropriate assy coding to match the other 4-speeds on the line.

    Just a thought.

P.S. The reason I have # 9097's data is a group of us in western Canada delivered this car to Wayne Walker (of Zip fame) at Bloomington of 1983. Took pics of warranty book.

Re: More M22 ammo -- DiLorenzo Hood

The DiLorenzo L88 was originally black with a red stinger as it came with standard trim. Mr DiLorenzo however prefered the black/ blue combo so he had the stinger painted after the car was produced.

                  Here's the story

Just got off the phone with my friend who sold the car to W.Walker in 1983. Wanted to get my facts straight. Says it was offered to Bill Mock and David Burroughs, who declined. Local engineer/racer bought car in 1970, raced extensively in eastern Canada and then out west. I know him and his mechanic. Seller reports that car was delivered to Walker with an IRS but no trans or engine. It did have blue streaks, American Racing mags, the original passenger seat (with crease from roll bar), original no-radio dash with a few toggle switches added, original doors and heater block-off plate. Front end is from a '66. Car was hit front and back, frame showed some damage but probably original. When raced, had a 36 gal tank installed which went with the sale.

I have 2 photos of the original paperwork and 2 of the car on the open trailer when we stopped for customs at the Canada/N.Dakota border. I believe I saw it at a BG event some years later, after the Nabors restoration.
