It's a shame...
that we have to look at that beautiful car with the NCRS badges on the Corvette Forum instead of HERE! The NCRS, it seems, is still living in the dark ages; no wonder we can't get any new, young members. We need to change with the times and overhaul the way this Board is presented. There is nothing wrong with having a cars/parts for sale section here. Maybe that would help improve our image at other Corvette websites and the Corvette hobby in general of being such a "snooty" organization. This can easily be rectified at the top of the chain of command here.

Re: It's a shame...
pat: i for one would love to have a NCRS classified on line as i'm sure you and the other 100 to 500 frequent users of this forum would favor. However, how do we deal with the other 16K+ members of NCRS who don't go on line? they'd be at a distinct disadvantage as buyers of the vette parts/cars that would come up on line. till more members participate electronicaly, doubt the board will buy into forum related advertising. my 1 1/2 cents worth. happy new year, mike- Top

Re: It's a shame...
Mike, I agree that we disagree; however, I think your argument is somewhat one sided. If you look into the Driveline ads, about 99% of the sellers and buyers include their email address, check it out. For the other 1% who really don't have computers and live in caves, they can go to the public library and check out the DriveLine On Line.
The other side of the story is that the current method of snail mailing the printed version of the Driveline is that some NCRS members, just because of their location, receive their copy in the mail the first week of the month. The other members receive their copy on the 4th week of the month.
The amount of disparity is the same in both scenarios. So right now we have discrimination against some members just because of where they live. By the time they receive their copy of the Driveline, most of the parts are gone.
The NCRS continues to ignore this situation and if the Commander in Chief of the NCRS reads this, maybe he can comment. Have a nice new year Mike!- Top

Re: It's a shame...
Mike: I don't think the rationale that we THINK only about 500 or so members participate in the online Tech DB is valid. I think that there are many more participants who frequent the board but do not post, but enjoy viewing the discussions for educational purposes. In addition the present means of distributing the classifieds via the Driveline and based on the constant compalints about extremely late and varied delivery dates of the Driveline by our members, only a select few are able to ever have a chance to take advantage of any of the ads because they are sold long before they receive the driveine. I think that the longer the powers to be adhere to that belief, the more members will become discouraged and disenfranchised and drop out of the organization because their complaints about the delivery of the Driveline are legend and yet nothing is being done to rectify the situation. Just my .005 cents.- Top

Re: It's a shame...
I agree with Len, Mike.
It could well be that only 500 NCRS members come here, but tell me why the others should? If they are not working on their cars, don't have some question that needs answering, or they have the complete NCRS library on the shelf behind their chair, then why bother to log in here?
Just because you do not see them here does not mean they are not on the computer or the Internet. I've seen many NCRS guys on eBay and not here.
That would be like Rev. Mike saying "if they aren't in my church, they must be lost heathens." Obviously, they could be attending other churches.
In the case of the NCRS Discussion Board, that is no doubt the case.
Unless you want to critically tear apart some fake L88, make fun of a red '62, discuss how out of date and inaccurate the '63-'64 judging manual is, and so on, what else is there here?
When is the last time you heard from ANY NCRS official other than Roy Sinor on here?
No offense to Joe Lucia with his incredible parts knowledge, John Hinckley (who the judge is allowing overnight visits now ) with his inside knowledge and memories, Michael Hanson with his vast history and research, and many others, but frankly none of this is official and doesn't count for squat when someone takes their car to the judging field or tries to get their Driveline to arrive within a couple of months of everyone else.- Top

Re: It's a shame...well said Mark
I have to agree, even the new c2 registry has some interesting photos and articles that would work great on this site....including links to other Corvette related sites etc...etc...etc. There should be links to various registries on our homepage as well if we partake why not promote?- Top

Electronic Driveline - make a business case
Gentlemen, y'al make great points about moving into the 21st century and I agree with you. However, as Mike points out the NCRS Board of Directors wants to be fair and equitable to all of its members. Many of which are members only to receive the printed publications.
Best approach would be to make a business case with all of the pros and cons and present it to the NCRS Board of Directors at the annual BOD meeting in March or the one after the Nationals in August. Winning business cases and presentations work well with the NCRS Board of Directors as I know from past experiences.
Happy New Year to y'al. JMTCW Regards,
Gary

Even if the classified ads are on line it doesnt
It doesn't stop them from being mailed out too! You could be allowed to choose which way you want to receive them and potentially save a lotta $ for the NCRS. They could just print up the needed number of copies to mail and then take a copy and scan it into the database as an Adobe Acrobat Reader file like Paragon does with their catalog, or a .jpg or .gif file or something lower tech and save on the printing and mailing costs.
